GH5 4320p 8K youtube setting in 6K Photo mode !

Joe, do you feel you get extra resolution compared to 4K?

I did some tests with 6K and I did not see any increased resolution over 4K.
 
I'm not following the GH5... but, you can shoot VIDEO in 6K(ish) on it? Is it time limited like 5 minute or what? is it full manual video capability in that mode or restricted?

I haven't used it yet, but apparently you can shoot 5.2K using the video photo-mode. No time limit. Full manual control.

I remember around the time the GH5 was about to hit the stores, that a dedicated anamorphic firmware was mentioned to be in development that would include "open gate" recording of the entire GH5 sensor. My guess is that this firmware is far behind the 400 Mbps upgrade that so many shooters are expecting in late August or early September.

Luke Neumann shot a GH5 5.2K anamorphic film for Panasonic back in April of this year...


 
I went Sunday for both the 6:30am launch and 7pm launch. I did not get out of the parking lot until 10:15pm !

Set your GH5 to 4:3 aspect ratio ,then to 6K photo mode, then to 6K Burst (S/S) in the menu. It shoots in H.265 and there is no time limit but I have only shot short clips of about 36 seconds. I did convert this clip to Apple ProRes 422 after I uploaded the native H.265 file to youtube.

Saturday it was just the wind, and the wanker on the PA system was making all the promises that they would launch etc.. etc.. and then i knew it was a no go when they were inflating and deflating various balloons without the buffoon saying anything. If they were going to launch he'd have been all over it. Unfortunate since we took my folks and really wanted them to see the launch.
 
I also planned on going Saturday but the weather forecast changed so I went very early Sunday morning and it was still dark out when I was parking my car.
 
SO "burst" mode is not really just burst, but you can film away with no limits? Why'd they call it burst mode? Because it is "PHOTO" mode does it shut off any settings like the GH4 does? Asking since I don't own a GH5 but this may be the thing that makes me buy one.
 
I agree, I did not see any videos with sound in 6K photo mode until I did it myself. I still think Panasonic should come out with a 16:9 aspect ratio 6K photo mode for making 5K 2880p videos using the full width of the sensor like in 3:2 mode but with 5184x2880 pixels instead of 5184x3456 in 3:2 6K photo mode. Also raise the H.265 to 400mbps .

The planned "open gate" mode should allow you to do this, but I don't know how processor intensive their h.265 recording is. ( unless they are using a dedicated h.265 chip )
 
Maybe the next gen model will support 24P raw recording. I like Panasonic's color science in general. The Varicam is exquisite. But the rendition of fine color discrimination and values leaves a lot to be desired with low end camera codecs and the trend toward emphasizing low light sensitivity at the expense of color quality. The latter results in very thin low saturation Bayer filters with mediocre color discrimination.
