Hi guys. I am planning to buy Canon 60d with 18-135mm lens. I found on pricegrabber.com store called www.42photo.com. I wonder if somebody of you guys, bought something recently from that site? I've seen couples review and they are OK. Price is $100 less than in B&H. Thanks for your help.

never heard of the place. but id stay away for that reason alone. i stay away from the whole pricegrabber, nexttag, amazon model. for every reputable dealer, there about 3 shady ones there... $100 savings is no reason to go with some ganky, possibly grey-market dealer.

spend the extra hundred bucks and get your camera from an authorized dealer.

if $100 difference in price is that big a deal to you. buying a camera is probably an unwise financial decision at the moment for you anyway. ; )

I bought my camera from one of those price grabber style websites. EmicroX I think it was. I'm 95% sure it's grey market. It came with a warranty card, but it's all white. Not the one with the red on top (like the one with my lens that I bought from B&H). Camera works fine. Saved $200. Bought a 50mm 1.8 and a 32gb card with the savings.

At the time, I thought the $200 was worth the risk. But If I need to get the camera serviced in the next 10 months or so, and I find that they can't do it under warranty, I'll probably be a little salty.

Do not buy from them! I ordered one and it WAS grey market and it had grease all over it. Like somebody had a NY slice of pizza, opened the box, and used my camera. . They also treated me with little respect saying the camera was never taken out, and I was lying. Do not buy

Well, if they're not an authorized dealer (and I don't know if they are) you have no guarantees that you're not getting a gray market camera.

That said - I looked them up on reseller ratings (fully expecting to find low ratings) and they actually have a decent score, and a decent number of reviews.

Even though - for $100 difference, I would make sure I was buying from an authorized dealer.
Just my 2 cents.

EDITED TO ADD:
And in light of the post above, I definitely don't think it's worth $100.

I ordered my 60D body from them and everything came with out problems, it seemed like it was a whole kit and they just took out the lens but its all good. I always seem to have good luck ordering stuff anyway
They did call trying to sell me tons of extra stuff before they charged the payment though

I got mine a few months ago from a place called BestPriceElectronics because of PriceGrabber saying it was the lowest price compared to Amazon, etc. It was a hassle/learning experience.

It's not a scam, but a fairly ingenious system in place.

You order what you think is going to be a great deal. $100 off the nearest online store, what could go wrong? They end up calling you to "verify" the order. But what they really are doing are trying to sell you accessories at abysmal prices. I should have done my homework prior to buying, or at least ask what brand the parts were. Selling me a $2 Vivitar UV filter for $14 bucks and a third-party battery for $70 (which can be bought for $20 shipped) was their way of recouping the discount back.

After I got my stuff and actually did my searching on the parts I was actually sold, I called them up to return them. They said for a refund I would have to send the whole package back. Including the camera that I was satisfied with. They would even take care of the restocking fee. Unfortunately, I needed the camera for a job already so I could not do it. I told the guy then I will simply order another one with no accessories and return this one for full refund in a week. He transfers me over to the sales department. I tell them I would like to buy the T2i with the 18-55 lens. He says let me check if that's in stock. Yep, it's there and available. Sounds good. He asks me what accessories would I like to buy in addition? I say just the camera and lens, nothing else. "Oh you know what, it's actually not in stock. Call back in about three weeks." *click*

They ended up shipping me an additional 8GB memory card free of charge after I complained about their business ethics. I had a nice kick at the invoice price. They charged me nothing, but still left the price tag on it.

Qty Name Price Total
1 SecureDigital™ - 8GB High-Speed Professional SD Memory Card $159.81

I guess to the unknowing, a class 6 card of some no-name brand could cost $160. Meanwhile my Transcend Class 10 16GB that I got off Amazon for $30 shipped is outperforming it with ease.

I did end up with a red box (probably because I did end up buying their accessories) so at least that was okay. I later learned that the white box means your warranty is covered by the vendor you bought your camera from, not by Canon. The red ones you can take directly to Canon if there was ever any issue.

As always, your mileage may vary.

P.S. I wonder if the white box versions are actually refurbished models.

I'm not sure why you would buy this model from 42photo.com. While I get that it is $100 off, you will most certainly recieve a camera with no warranty. "The Imaging World" also sells the 60d for $100 off the typical 999.99 price. A quick visit to canon.com indicates that The Imaging World is an authorized dealer. I'd suggest ordering from them, or any other authorized online dealer like Adorama or BH.
