$4299 for new HVX? To good to be true?

Finally ready to purchase the HVX and doing some "numbers" from all the vendors.

Anyone ever purchase anything from a place called CameraPros? Here's the link:
http://www.thecamerapros.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=25070

Sounds way to good to be true in my book, but you never know. Any thoughts?

Also, besides the most obvious companies out there- B&H, EVS, Abel, etc. any other suggestions for good, reliable sources out there? Simply looking for the best value.

Thanks everyone!

These guys are in Brooklyn... that should be enough to scare anyone. They're not an authorized dealer... that should seal it.

Those crappy "Professional's Upgrade" extras tell me that this price is too good to be true, and that you would be better off buying from an authorized dealer.

Wow, they sell a PRO FLUID TRIPOD for $79.99; and here Jarred and Barry are using a Cartoni Focus. They wasted all that money for nothing!

Wow -- a 12 hour battery for only $349... and a Digital Optics wide-angle lens adapter for just $849 too? And it offers a "full US warranty"...

All the signs are there, folks. This is Broadway/A&M/Royal all over again, just disguising their identity yet one more time...

Here we go again with another Brooklyn camera store thread. Nobody is going to sell an item below cost and stay in business long. Of course, my grandfather always said he lost a little bit on each sale but made up for it in the volume. That's why I'm working for a living and not living off a trust fund. Just try to get it for that price. I do confess, though, to playing with these guys periodically and ending the conversation by telling them in Yiddish that observant people should not be ganef's (thieves). They hang up very quickly.

Thanks everyone. I figured as much, but wanted to get any first hand feedback out there as possible.

Will be playing it safe... and going elsewhere.

Can someone explain this to me. If everyone knows that Brookly camera shops are so dodgy, the sellers must know this as well. So why don't they move out of Brookly so that they will not get sussed out so quickly?

Is here a special protection law in Brooklyn that means they won't go to jail for ripping off customers? Or are they so frigging gormless they don't know better?

Definitely OT, but just a word of explanation about Brooklyn scam industry...

Vis a vis Brooklyn for our UK friend (and others)... I can say this because coming from me it can't be perceived to be anti-Semitic. The NY camera industry has long been dominated by Chassidic Jews and there were often links between camera and diamond interests (witness the now defunct 47th St Photo). Many of these companies are honorably run according to very high ethical and legal standards (B&H and Adorama as 2 examples). But, just because someone has outward signs of religiosity, it doesn't always make them moral and upright people in other aspects of their lives. Also, there are a number of different sects of Chasidic Jews, and those involved in the camera trade tend to live in Boro Park, Brooklyn (and many are now in the burbs around Monsey, NY in Rockland County). Bottom line here is that the owners and workers live in Brooklyn and rents for boiler room operations in dilapidated buildings are cheap. These people are a disgrace to the religion they claim to observe to scrupulously and we "modern mainstream" Jews are very embarassed by them.

Notice on the bizrate site, what they had to do!!!!!

"We detected and disabled 50+ fraudulent "Very Satisfied" reviews for this merchant. Due to the continuous submission of said reviews, we are no longer accepting new reviews for this store as of 1/19/2006."

I will say it. These people are crooks. Don't buy from them.

Way Below Cost

Way Below Cost

My partner and I just bought two HVX cameras from an authorized Panasonic U.S. dealer. We paid him his asking price and he actually volunteered us his cost. $4,299 is well below cost. We are dealing with a reputable dealer who is selling us products Panasonic will stand behind with a factory warranty. That's worth a lot to us and we don't mind a dealer making a profit since we plan to make a profit from our use of the cameras.

i said this before , i dont know where but , i tried all this great prices before, i even give theme my credit card...but heres the catch, you have to call theme to complete the purchase, some of theme will tell you the camera comes just by itself no charger, no battery...... and some of theme will try to sell you other stuff like filters battery etc and if they are not succesfull they wont send you nothing, they dont charge the credit card until they ship it....oooh dont forget the 300$ shiping and 100$ insurance , that will cost theme like 20 $
i tried all the above and end up gettin it from ebay 5500$
almost frgoy dont get the battery, i got 6 hours one, tried it, worked for less then 1 hour

Yup. Quite frankly sickens me. Many of them are low life scheisters, and I love the looks on their faces when you call them on it.

At the end of the day you are spending a little more to go to an authorised dealer, but the piece of mind is well worth it. If it goes pop after a week, how are you going to get it sorted by going through a dodgy seller or ebayer?

That alone is worth the extra expense. If it blows up you take it back to an authorised dealer and they sort it for you pronto.

Penny-wise, dollar poor. Unless you can afford to throw away that money spend the extra bit of cash to know that everything will turn out allright.
