400 AF100's to Ship on 12-27

A dealer says that Panasonic will ship 400 AF100's on December 27, so now we know it's unlikely to expect any cameras prior to January 7(B&H expected date), and how many units in the first batch. This dealer is taking preorders and makes it sound like all of the 400 units aren't retail sold yet.

does that not seem like a low amount? more so, is this usa wide or north american wide? with all of this talk on canada only getting 4 units, which does not seem realistic, and now this, i wonder if panasonic is going to produce enough units to cover the many shops who have made pre order lists. i think i am first on the list so even if one camera comes ill be happy. however, can jan or anyone confirm how many units will be produced for the usa/canada market.

vistek paul? i think im near the top, no idea exact number. if this is true, it reminds me of the major toy frenzies like furby or nano haha. drive to every store looking for one. maybe arnold is around for a jungle all the way 2.

Ordered mine from Merkle Camera. They always beat Visktek's best price. I am told they are only ordering mine. Before me they had never heard of it, so mine is first there.

sweet paul, i have someone i get my stuff from so it works out. good luck to ya! i am very worried by this point, i havent had a camera since april when i sold it to wait for this one, and i really hope i dont have to wait longer.

Well that dealer is a little misinformed, but it is close enough. Point is some cameras may leave the factory earlier and some no later than that 27th. We ship overnight by air. The clear customs before they leave Japan. The dealer has to receive them in and then turn around and ship. I think that B & H's estimate to be very close based on holidays and shipping.

Best,

Jan

thanks jan, though how about the canadian dealers. is this separate from the 400, will canadian customers see a camera for the release date?

I ordered through Cinequip White in Toronto. They indicated that their initial order would be 10 units - but would add to that if demand warranted. I think I was pre-order #3 & 4.

Even if I only get one of the cameras in the first shipment I'll be happy.

400 units for all the U.S. in the initial shipment seems like a low number, or do we all just live in a bubble?

thats alright, thanks for the response jan. i sent panasonic canada an email. to me it did seem like a low number for a camera that has so many pre ordering and willing to pay for it before it even is released. but on the other side, if panasonic wanted im sure they could wait another month and release more units all at once. im high on the vistek order so should be ok, just double, triple checking.

I think I'm #2 or #3 on the Vistek list too. I guess we'll see soon enough how many Canada gets.

Do they know how many they will be getting?

They could only tell me that they've put in two purchase orders to Panasonic. They said Panasonic told them they'd be shipping on the 27th and that I'd more than likely receive mine sometime a week after that.

Thanks! I'm #4! Right after you!

Nice! I've not dealt with Full Compass before but I got some stunning reviews of their service, and called and talked to a real person about ordering. Really great customer service so far. I would have been #2 but I ended up going to lunch when the sales rep called me and couldn't take the call then. I'll settle for #3 though :)

Bought 2 batteries and a static lens adapter for EOS, only waiting on Birger at this point. (And Atmos for that matter. I'd like to get a Ninja)

Shawn (at Full Compass) said he'd put a custom AF100 package together for me. So many questions as to what to immediately buy and what to wait on. Very hard to decide.
