4 Minute Short

I did like the filmmaking quite a bit. I like that use on montage, all of those little, and when you get down to it, unrelated shots, making up the story. I especially like this kind of thing in shorts.

Although, I actually didn't think the pay-off was all that great for the build-up.

But great work.

I too really enjoyed watching this. I do weddings and events so I'm certainly no cinematography expert, but I do tend to criticise and berate movies quite a bit, and I tend to notice inconsistencies and that. This was great though! The actor was great. I too wondered at first about the CUs, but they added to the idea of the actor's daily life being monotonous and a grind. The quick cuts and such reminded me of "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," which I loved! (I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead").

Great work danm!

hey i really love this, ive watched it alot of times and have been planning to use that song. but why does it looks sort of fake when the guy jumps off the thing into the field in the last shot? on my screen it looks animated like he falls really fast

I noticed that too. A combination of speeding up the footage with an altered background maybe? His clothing in that shot seemed to have to hard an edge against the sky. Maybe it's the absence of a light wrap? I watched that part about 10 times trying to pick out what was not feeling right, and I still can't (exactly). Not that it feels wrong, mayhaps it's because that's the first shot of the type, and is all the more powerfull for it. I dunno, but what an awsome piece of work.

Just fan-friggin-tastic.

ps. I also liked the main actor a lot. He conveyed everything to me. I smiled at the end, and really felt for the guy. Awsome.

I thought it was good. Why don't you put it in the Night Gallery Film Festival? They have a posting on this form for films.

very nice work danm! those shakes really kicks ass! and i really need to ask what music did sigur used?

Excellent, I did have trouble with the dialogue at first, then turned my speakers up a bit more, it was fine. :)

Thought the way it was put together was brilliant. It started to remind me of 'Groundhog Day' ;)

Thank you for sharing.

Review

Story = Good, simple message.
Camera Work =Nice selection of angles & use of natural light.
Music = Perfect compliment for the mood and transition at the end.
Talent = Acting was superb for the role, good expressions.

Overall = An excellent short film that could have benefitted from more character development but very entertaining with a clear and distictive perspective. Nice use of color, particularly at the end to compliment the fantasy like nature of euphoric state of mind. Another important note is the high quality of the editing which carried nice rythm and pacing along with the soundtrack.

Thanks guys - Im pleased this ones still being commented on..
a feature would be wicked but one step at a time. A few more shorts in the pipeline. Hopefully taking one step forward each time... Always intersted in UK collaboration if anyone wants to get involved.

great job. I tend to easily distinguish European filmmaking from USA filmmaking. I knew this was made by somone outside of the US. Besides the obvious influence of Aronofsky's Requiem For A Dream (editing/content style) it was done very well...Agree with what people have been saying. Didnt make out the dialogue, but even without it, the visual and music set a mood, and i connected with the character. I too as well felt connected to the main guy in his "hapiness" hah. Good ****, keep it up man!

Actually felt happy for the guy, had a smile on my face. Too bad I know when he comes down he will feel 10 times worse than before he took what seems like extasy. Just a movie I know. Point is..if I'm feeling for the character then you did your job, a good one at that.

ECSTACY!?!?! I THOUGHT IT WAS A VIAGRA!!!

wow i just watched this now for the first time and what can i say that hasnt already been said here? outstanding work on every level.

it's also the first time i've seen something deinterlaced with magic bullet and im very impressed. i was sure it was shot on an sdx900. dan, you mentioned that the MB shots are noticeably not as sharp but i couldnt see that. i'd love to see this on a television and scrutinize.

in any case, does this mean that one ideal solution to getting 2/3" CCD footage that is 24p, to get a lower end 2/3" cam and simply MB it?

again this looked awesome, i felt immediately that it wasnt dvx.

I de-interlaced with FCP's standard filter, not magic bullet. The DVCPRO 615 sells for about £9k. It's very sharp ... VERY very sharp.. too sharp really.

If I had 9k I wouldnt buy the 615 but would spend my cash on either a HVX with SGPRO or M2 or pimp my DVX with an andromeda and get a 35mm adapter. I'd buy a small 7" monitor and rotate it and mount it on my camera shoe to monitor the 35 adapter footage properly. Then I'd buy a powerbook and still have some cash left over.

DVCPRO from the 615 looks wank - I think its primarily used for news work. To get a shallow depth of field with those camera you need to put the shutter speed up or mess about with moving away and zooming in. Unless you mess about with your footage its hard to get the right look for a film. Because it's so crisp, sharp and flat its hard to get emotive footage. The camera are orientated towards the TV market.
