GH4 4 methods of contrast control!

OK this confused me for the first hour. There are 4 ways to adjust contrast on this cam:

1. Quick Menu - Photo Style or Menu > Motion Picture -> Photo Style (can choose different styles eg Cinelike-D or Portrait)

2. Menu -> Motion Picture -> Photo Style (go in and customize contrast on an individual style... although that still uses the pic style as a base, so Cinelike-D with Contrast -5 is different contrast to Custom with Contrast -5)

3. Menu -> Motion Picture -> Highlight / Shadow (you can put in an S-curve... or an anti-S-curve...)

4. Menu -> Motion Picture -> i.Dynamic (is this a local-contrast-aware HDR post-processing system or just another contrast adjustment?)

Then of course there are basic pedestal, 16-235 etc settings. I am assuming that since I want to use the full 8-bit range, I will want to store color using all the values from 0-255.

One more thing: white balance also plays a role here since it's adjusting the R, G, B gain. So if you have a different white balance setting, it may clip the color channels at different levels.

Phew!

That is exactly why we need Barry Green to write "THE BOOK"! The minute I saw that the words Master Pedastal were included in the menu I knew there was no other way but a Barry Green step by step guide, to tame this beast!

As far as I know (based on the GH3). #4. i.Dynamic is only for stills.

When the camera mode dial is set to any of the still photo modes, say like Aperture Priority, then the camera menu has a Still Photo folder with settings for still photos and a Movie Camera folder with settings for video capture. The i.Dynamic setting is in both of those folders.

When the camera mode dial is set to the Motion Picture mode, then the camera menu has only the Motion Picture folder, and again, the i.Dynamic setting is there.

When you set the i.Dynamic setting to Off, Low, Standard, High, or Auto in any of these menus, then it appears in the same mode in all the other menus as well.

So is the i.Dynamic setting just for stills, or is it for video too?

Didn't have the GH-3 but for GH-2 it can be used for video. It's just schizophrenic when doing so.
