AC160 4:2:2 Audio?

Saw this running at the top of the DVX page, I'm guessing this is just a typo. If not, can someone tell me what "4:2:2 audio" is?

AG-AC160A
New 1080/60p & 50p HD recording
Variable frame rates for slow and fast motion
Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 audio
HD-SDI

----

I'm guessing that it was supposed to be "Uncompressed PCM audio" right?

Don't both the 130a & 160a shoot 1080p60 (or 130 & 160 w/ firmware upgrade)? Doesn't the 130 do 4:2:2 8bit out of the HDMI?

That 4:2:2 audio thing had to be a mistake the 160 does offer Uncompressed Linear PCM Audio. Only the AC160 and 160A shoot 1080/60P the AC130 does not support it at this time but I suspect that it will soon with the release of the more inexpensive AC90 that does offer 1080/60P

Yeah, looks like a typo. I'm guessing it meant to say "uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 output". Typos happen, it has been reported back to the company so they can fix it.

But doesn't the 130 have "uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 output" via HDMI too? I think it would be very crappy if the HDMI out of the 130 was compressed / limited in any way.

If you're highlighting the differences between the 130 & 160, it should be "Uncompressed Linear PCM audio" which is something the 130 doesn't have

I know that the 130 allows 4:2:2 color processing out of the HDMI but is the footage really uncompressed? Isn't there still some degree of compression? I thought the only uncompressed (RAW) video data, came out of super expensive cams like RED (where the bit rates are huge and the color is 4:4:4...

I've always been confused by that. Any clarifications?

Yes, of course it's uncompressed. The HDMI output of most of these cameras is an uncompressed 1080i or 720p signal. Now, some cameras may offer 8-bit and a few may offer 10-bit, and some may have a true 4:2:2 whereas others have a modified 4:2:0, but the HDMI output has not been compressed and then uncompressed for output.

The Red actually doesn't output uncompressed, it outputs compressed raw.

And raw is not the same as uncompressed. Raw means unprocessed raw sensor data. Uncompressed means that no compression has been applied. So the video cameras are outputting the uncompressed, unmodified output of their digital signal processors. Normally the signal chain would be for the camera to make its images and work its magic and then output the video to a compressor for recording; the HDMI and HD-SDI output on these cameras bypasses the compressor and outputs that uncompressed image directly to the SDI and HDMI outputs.
