4:2:2 480p?

whoa, whoa, whoa, WHOA!

...hold on.

Last time i checked this out i was it was a no go so I left the HVX in my dust long ago! Where can I find more info about this?!?!

If you've got FCP you can tether the HVX to the computer and record a live feed in log and capture. No P2 necessary. I have no experience with the other programs, but it's quite simple to do this in Final Cut and works just fine.

No problem, the software strips out the duplicate frames on capture. If you're on the PC EDIUS can do it automatically, I'm not sure about Avid. But my favorite way (far and away favorite way) to capture is through DV Rack 2.0 HD, and yes it saves only the native frame rates.

On FCP you use log & capture and it also strips out the duplicate frame rates.

EDIUS can do it either way; it can capture the full 60p data stream or it can save only the active frames, your choice.

There are many P2-less ways to go with an HVX; you can use a FireStore (or the CitiDisk if you want) or the forthcoming nNovia or CinePorter; you can go direct to computer, or you can go direct to tape if you have access to a DVCPRO-HD tape deck. P2 is just one of many options.

(and yes, you can do DVCPRO50 direct to computer too).
