4:2:2 480p?

Can you record anamorphic 480p in 4:2:2? If so can you record it to minidv or only p2? if p2, how much can you record on a 4gig card?

THANK YOU

DVCPro 50 - 8 Minutes on 4GB

DVCPro HD 720/24pN - 10 Minutes on 4GB

DVCPro HD 720/24p(A)/30p/60i/1080i - 4 Minutes on 4GB

You get more of the 720/24pN than of the DVCPro 50 (480p) because with 24pN it is only recording 24 frames. When you're shooting DVCPro 50 it is recording 60 frames. So despite the smaller dimensions of the frame, you're recording more total frames and more total data. For the same reason, you only get 4 minutes of recording for each of the settings at 1080. If you shoot at 24, 30, or 60 they are all stored as 60 frame files (just using pulldown to play at the appropriate rate), and thus they all take up the same file space.

DVCPRO-HD is more highly compressed than DVCPRO50. DVCPRO50 has extremely mild compression. And DVCPRO50 always takes up 50 megabits regardless of the frame rate. So you get 8 minutes of 720/30PN or 8 minutes of DVCPRO50 on 4gb card. Because 720pN only stores the active frames necessary, 720/24pN only takes up 40 megabits per second, as opposed to 50 for DVCPRO50, so you can store a bit more 720/24pN on a card than you can DVCPRO50.

12 min?!? i thought you could record about 15 min of 720p? yikes

guess I'm still going for the andromeda

Sorry, but I have to laugh... is 3 min really that important to completely give up on the entire camera?

3 minutes wouldn't be, but since i thought you record 15 min of of 720p, I assumed you could record a LOT more of 480p (obiously i was wrong)

Mpeg2 is has a 4:2:0 color space. What this means is that every other line has no chroma information while the others have full chroma info. If you drop one field - the one without any chroma info - you're left with 'full' chroma resolution. This is somewhat interpolated in the downrez process but pretty cool.
