365

Maybe Mikko's referring to September 28, 365 when Procopius bribed two legions passing by Constantinople, proclaimed himself Roman emperor, and took control of Thrace and Bithynia?

i can see a lot of similarities between that event and mikko becoming a mod.

Well I read the "J.J Abrams "Cloverfield" project." thread because I thought it might have something to do with that, considering Zak and Jared seemed to have understood something and the name was mentioned.

Didn't see anything there...

have you seen JJ in his "TED" appearance?

Mikko is referring to the fact that there are only 365 days until all analog tv broadcasts are shut off in favor of the federally mandated digital standard. (It took me a while, but I got there )

Is it me or digital singals gets stuck from time to time. It's annoying! Here it is I'm watching my favorite show and then the show pauses skipping crucial parts I wanted to see.

Correct.

For a forum full of video nerds, I'm amazed how long that took. :)

yes video nerds, but not that way, thats the ground for engineers (as you)
and I also have some problems with the digital signal, but I think that it is derivated from the lack of aerial coberture and bad quality of the receptor, but when I recieve the signal well (most of the time) hte quality is great.

The thing is, this doesn't just affect engineers. If you watch TV in the USA, this will most likely affect you in some way.

And for those of you without cable/sat or a nice new DTV; don't forget your coupon! https://www.dtv2009.gov/

I'm not in usa but i heard that in europe it will also happen, but don't know when

Depends on the country. In many countries it allready has...
Luxembourge, The Netherlands, Finland, Andorra, Sweden, and Switzerland have all switched off Analog (terrestrial) broadcasts.

EDIT: Micheal, Canada is still a little furthur behind in the process. The end of August 2011 seems to be the date for most of Canada.

You better take that May rebate and get yourself a nice little digital set-up. The date ain't gonna change.

Are you talking to me? I'm in Canada. Different date altogether.
BTW, I already have a HD Projector and a HDTV. Two HD PVR's as well....
I'm way ahead of the curve and looking forward to the full switch!

nothing until 2010 here in spain. Anyway, it won`t affect me as i already have dtv so no need for uploading my tv set.
the major problem will be for tv stations that have to invert in a new system. For example the basque television has already taken the plunge and is totally digital, and btw they use HVXs and HPXs.

I'm really worried that this switchover is going to result in a HUGE wave of tv dumping. Consumers are being mislead :eyes Best Buy: and a good amount think they need to change their TV because analog over the air service is being axed.

then it will be a great time to buy a used tv. :)

it's not just best buy. the government isn't doing much to clarify things here either.

just waiting for a 42" quality LCD to drop below 600 bucks... then i'll start considering it.
