35mm adapter question

i got 16mm cameras with lenses on them and i thought about trying out these diy adapters for digital. im gonna buy a small cheap camcorder (hv20) and test out the
lenses. my question is, can you have the film lens right up next to the camcorder lens? example, say i build a box, inside the box i mount and stabilize the camcorder. on the outside of the box, i drill the circular hole and mount a lens mount adapter on it and just attach the lens to the side of the box. and then ill have the camcorder inside the box enclosed, with the camcorder lens up against the cut hole in the box where the lens mount adapter would be. (think of an old film camera, box with a lens on it) would this work? or does the camera lens have to be a certain distance from the camcorder lens? im building replica film cameras (body will be hollow with the camcorder inside) to match my film cameras. just something for fun to play around my house with

It's much more complicated than that, you have to have the 16mm lenses project an image onto a focusing screen and then the camcorder picks up the image from the focusing screen, you can't simply mount the 16mm lens in front of the camcorder and get an image.

sorry i wrote that wrong i never read it over i type using my phone. i meant the lenses used in diy adapter projects. (slr camera lenses) the 16mm camera lenses were what gave me the idea of wanting to do that
