I am posting this just for you guys :)
Here is a dance I shot yesterday using the gh3 and 35-100. 2.8, 500 ISP, 30fps, 1/60. It is slightly over exposed and I will correct and grade later, but I was amazed at the quality of the autofocus tracking as this dancer moved around the stage. This cam was a B cam to another gh3 so I felt fine using auto focus. First time using auto focus and it ALMOST makes me want to switch to auto during bright ceremonies :)

Nice! Camera was being zoomed in and out, correct? Did you have a zoom lever on the lens?

No zoom lever on the 35-100...all manual :). This is a great lens.
Can someone tell me about the banding I see in the background? What causes it? Are there ways to avoid it?

the banding looks like an LED light source situation. becoming more and more common as venues switch to cheap LED lights : (

The only thing you can do is switch the SS to 1/40 or 1/50 and see if it goes away.
In the UK, I generally have to be at either 1/40 or 1/50 when LEDs are around - one of those normally works, as long as there are not different types of frequency in the same shot.
