32 Gig P2 Cards Officially Announced

I think the issue is probably more about price than availability.
Just a guess.

But I can see how some people would be gunshy - given how quickly the cards are becomming discontinued and prices are dropping.

Of course - we can't have it both ways. Everyone says they want bigger cards cheaper, but then if the company moves too quickly... well... you know.

I've been looking for hoodman at IBC, and I haven't seen them anywhere on teh show floor, nor have I found any mention of them in the show directory. The company's official name is "Hoodman USA", which would indicate that perhaps they arn't very active internaltionally and therfore arn't at IBC.

Could be less. I've been wondering about the whole prospect of them raiding more SD cards together inside the P2 card; theoretically that could make for bigger cards sooner, and could make them offload faster. The P2 card only uses about half the potential speed of the PCMCIA bus. If they went to RAIDing 8 cards instead of four, they could double the transfer rate and double the potential capacity; P2 cards could be faster than SxS ExpressCards...

I don't know if that's possible, of course, but it's a tantalizing prospect to think that maybe the transfer time of the bigger cards will come down even as the capacity goes up... I hope they can implement something like this.

That's actually accurate. However, wouldn't you run into higher pricing w/the internal controller? It'd have to be a tiny hardware raid, right?

Still a good idea.

They already have a tiny hardware raid in there. I'm just speculating on the prospect of having it raid together 8 cards instead of four...

I had no idea. Then it's a matter of what RAID the controller is capable of, which should be all levels.
