32+32 does not equal 60

So the P2 Store is 60GB correct? I'm I safe to assume that two 32 or one 64 card will not fit entirely on the P2 Store?

:dankk2:

That is correct. The P2 Store was designed for the era of 4 and 8GB P2 cards. It's a bit obsolete with 64 GB cards if/until Panasonic decides to greatly expand the hard drive.

The P2 Store is over. It was a stopgap product to tide people over until the cards got big enough.

The P2 Gear or P2 Portable, while being more expensive and more capable, are the replacement for the P2 Store. With the Portable, you can export 23 partitions (instead of 15) to user-swappable external USB hard disks. We used 500GB hard disks, bought for $109 at Best Buy. And they're bus-powered. And there's two slots. And you can play footage back from the hard disk! And you can name the partitions so that they don't show up on your Mac desktop as "NO NAME". And you can use it as a pass-thru device (like a Kona card) so you can view your HD footage from your timeline on your external HD monitor. And you can extract subclips from bigger clips, and copy clips, and edit metadata, and on and on.

So, no - I believe there won't be an upgraded P2 Store. They've moved on to the next thing, which is the HPG20.

So where does this all fit into place with regard to the HPX170? I'm reading here LINK that you can offload your P2 cards to a plain old HDD as long as you have access to AC.

You can. Or, use a battery-powered hard disk enclosure like the Nexto CF2525.

Most of us just use a laptop, a Windows laptop with the PCMCIA slot makes it an integrated and effortless offload (even for those who plan to do their editing on a Mac). Or you can use the camera directly to control the drive and offload the cards. Or you can use something like the P2 Portable to get the capability to offload to any USB hard disk, since the Portable supplies bus power.

Options, options, options! I love options and not being painted into a corner! Thanks Panasonic! :dankk2:
