30p in 24p timeline, is this right

Oh, yeah. That's what you're going to get when you try to convert 30p to 24p at full speed -- choppiness, ghosting around moving objects.

You should only ever try to convert 30p to 24p if you slow it down to 80%, for slo-mo.

sorry to digress for second, if you add hand held camera work and the theme from wonder years, it would fit pretty well

open the clip in cinema tools and Conform it to 23.976. Slowing it in FCP will not do it correctly.

Cinema Tools is part of the Final Cut Pro suite... what NLE and system are you using?

Oh... premiere...

sorry.

What CT does is instead of take the first 30 frames and call it a second it takes the first 24 frames and calls THEM a second. Cool little feature for slowmo. Not sure what is available outside of the FCP workflow.

Oh, ok. Thanks. I was really disappointed when it didn't work. I thought it did everything properly. Would it look just like my 24pa footage, but slowed down and still smooth?

So, what did you do? You need to capture it. Check Interpret Footage and make sure it sees it as 29.97fps and No Fields (it's progressive). Drop the clip in the timeline. Right click it and choose, what, Speed? Set to 80%. Should be a perfect frame by frame of your 30p, only slower. Just to make sure, right-click on the clip and choose Field Settings and make sure Frame Blend on Speed Changes is UNCHECKED.

Also, I've never uploaded a video to YouTube before, but how does it handle 24p? Maybe it's creating the strange blends?

OK, one thing to note -- don't know if you're trying to do this or not; some people gravitate toward this, especially if using "interpret" -- do NOT try to deinterlace any of the footage. You should never do it with progressive footage of any kind, and Premiere isn't the best at deinterlacing anyway.

Looks better, but I could swear I still saw some double images. Do you see it on the raw avi as well?

30p to 24p is a pretty subtle slow motion. 60i slowed to 40% will obviously be a more dramatic change.

Well Do I have my expectations too high to have it look like 40fps slow mo. Is it gonna be butter, or what, could I see some of your examples.

Sorry, I didn't feel like doing the math, I was just saying that if it was done properly it would have more frame per second than 24.
