300mm usable for filming (on a travel tripod)?

Hey,

I've got the wide and medium focal lengths pretty much covered on my 7D, with the Tokina 11-16, Canon 35L and 85L. I'm going on a month long vacation to Indonesia early 2010. And would like to be able to film tele shots of the wonderfull nature and wildlife over there. So I'm in the market for a tele lens.

Thinking of buying the Sigma 100-300 F4. Would the 300mm end (effectively 480mm on the 7D's crop sensor) be usable on my Manfrotto 756CX3 (carbon fibre) travel tripod with 701HDV video head?

I know panning will ofcourse be out of the question (because of driftback). But what about wind vibrations, will the slightest breeze ruin these (static) shots? If so, would buying a ball head make any difference (as I understand it can be locked tighter than a videohead)?

What do you guys think?

really depends on the wind- you can definitely get some cool shots with that but yeah vibration will be a potential issue. It's not the head that matters so much as a really solid tripod.
