C300: 3 things that would make C300 Mark II nearly perfect

The Canon C300 Mark II, a damn fine camera for sure but 3 things it could do with IMHO:

4K60p, obv.

Proper centre scan (with audio) to allow use of Super 16/ B4 lenses.

The ability to apply LUT(s) to clips when playing back (unless I'm missing something).

Oh and if i'm being picky - the rubber stops that fall off the LCD unit after 2 weeks. Please just replace them free of charge when requested.

I like the C300 Mark II. I agree that 4K 50/60p would be great. For me details in the files are very important. That is why I loved the original C300 and have been shooting with it since 2012. The Mark II 4k files are very nice. If Canon gives us 4K 50/60p which is not as detailed than I have no need for those. I don't go by specs and don't care for the high fps stuff of sony.

If richly detailed high fps stuff can be recorded to external recorder than it is fine for me. I am not sure Canon is going to take that route.

I don't have the need for centre scan super 16 lenses.

No camera is perfect. However, after testing the C300 Mark II in the field, I really like it. Sharing my field review in case anyone here hasn't seen it

I see enormous possibilities with this camera and feel I have to really push myself to extract 100% from this camera.

I agree. I switched from a Sony and have found it a joy to use. Just a bit of fun really and if Canon were to implement any changes through future firmware updates, those would be my requests.
It's an incredibly versatile camera and I love the fact you can use it completely stripped down with some L glass or rigged to the high teeth for web n broadcast.IMG_1882.JPG

I like the images coming off of this thing. Not a super fan of the body, but i can see why others like it.

I went for the Sony F3 for the reason I can not use Nikon lenses on the C300. Don't own any Canon lenses either...

I have both Nikon and Canon glass that I use on C300 and C100. All the Nikon lenses have Nikon to Canon EF adapters that remain on the lenses. $15 to $25. Not really a reason to choose an F3 as you have to use an adapter to use Nikon glass as well.

Those $25 adapters can be hit or miss. None of them fit as well as the $75 i bought. But yeah, $75, is still cheap.

Can you elaborate on the lens & zoom controller you show here?

AFAIK - Yes. I already did the roundtrip in the US. EF to PL back to EF. $359 per switch so $718 total. Decent turnaround times. First time I had to take the PL to another place for shimming, for the return to EF they shimmed the mount. Not sure if they shim both ways now. (Given the intended market for the C300mk2 including shimming seems like a good idea.) Firmware needs to change between mounts, afaik. Price is problematic, imho. So would be better if Canon would allow certified repair centers to do this as they can offer better pricing.

Also worth noting: The PL mount is still 'dumb'. No i contacts yet (there's a slot for it, and I recall some talk about that possibly happening...). So also no focus help tools with PL, only with EF.

can any C300 ii owners chime in? does the auto focus aid work for nikon/contax lenses with the EF adapter? i know auto focus/face tracking does not work if its not a canon EF lens but what about the focus assist option (the one where it tells you where to turn and when you hit the focus it turns green)...

I don't have Nikon/contax lenses to check. However, I think the focus assist option should work when you are using EF adapter. It works whenever I put my EF lenses (long telephotos plus TCs) on manual mode or with cinema lenses.

My little rubber stopper fell off also and I just got off the phone with Canon. They informed me that I would have to send in the LCD unit for a warranty claim so I bought the most expensive tiny rubber stopper in all the history of expensive tiny rubber stoppers. Do you have any advice on popping it on or is it pretty straight forward?

I know, ridiculous. They come on a little adhesive strip but I carefully augmented that with super glue. So far it's held but not best design.

Ergonomically, I think the camera's too tall in its default state (monitor unit attached to the top of the handle). I'm a big ergonomics nut since I don't like complex rigs and external things. How tall the camera is was definitely something I thought they'd change going from the C300 to the Mark II, but I was unfortunately wrong.
