3 DVX Shorts

Thanks xilixfilms.
The CC for Sugar and All's fair... were done on a DaVinci.
HIP had some minor CC using FCP.

hehe loved em! very well done
i love the CC. Looks almost like a bleach bypass.

What did you use for sound? the sound is really crips and clear. What kind of mics?

Just watched Sugar.. The colours look nice indeed.

However, I found the sound, most likely recorded on the on-cam mic, to be the weak aspect of the film, contrary to Papa. Additionally, I noticed it wasn't cut well in some places. When the character is sitting with the TV off, and it's intercut with the shots of the garbage bin, whenever the bin comes up we can hear the noise of the refrigirator; when we cut back there isn't any noise again.

Also, to better differenciate between the dream and the real life, I would add some warmth to the dream shots, at least to make the sand look more 'hot'.

And lastly, in the dream sequence the leaf tree at the top of the dune , only present in the colder climates, doesn't really help with the illusion of the desert :).

Apart from that, good job, as most people here say.

really liked sugar...and like most people i never like most amatuer stuff. it would have been perfect if in the wide shot living room scene the white balance were the same throughout.

The actor's willingness in Sugar to completely cover his face and mouth with sand made it a whole lot better.
The colors in Alls fair were really nice looking.

Thanks to all for the feedback!

PaPa- The mic's were a combination of panasonic's AG-MC100G
Unidirectional Microphone & a Lectrosonics Lav (i think the 190).
The lav was rigged in the phone-booth (strategically placed to not get smashed to bits :)

Dmitry- The "refrigerator" sound was meant to be there, it actually gets louder in the CU of the bin (as in silence is deafening / beckoning silence).
The cooler tone of the "dream" is cooler than the rest of the film to differentiate it from the rest and also to make the sand appear more like sugar, as opposed to hot yellow sand (i.e. Sugar Mountain).

Steven Bogda- Although disgusting, the sand wasn't as much an issue as the doughnuts (the actor is diabetic)!

BTW both Sugar and All's Fair... were made for a Short film competition where the contestants pulled a title out of a hat and came back with a finished product 20 days later.
Thanks again for the feedback.
