2nd Place 72hr Filmmaker Contest Entry "Missing"

Well this was when I was in school and I was using Avid Media Composer 1000 or 4000 I think....you know the expensive one.

I'm not sure if the consumer version has one.

This took forevor to load, so I only watched about half. The acting wasn't very good, and I don't think this benefited from the 2:35:1 aspect ratio. Just didn't look right for some reason. Looked very videoish also. You mentioned you did this in school, what school are you referring to? Tim.

Slimothy....Looked very videoish also.

Well, I must tell you the DVX100a does shoot video not film!

We all are trying to make video look like film....wont happen....film is film, video is video
We can make it look filmish....but it's just not film....anyone who has shot film knows what I'm talking about!

And I am not including cameras like the CineAlta

But the guy at EVS told me the dvx shoots film also. Why did you use the video setting instead of the film setting. I'm pretty sure film is f6.

AVID does have the Phone filters #1 and 2, and they produce fantastic effects. You access them through the Mixer tool.

I'm not saying that the guy at EVS misquoted himself in what he told, but there is a difference between film and "film-look". If you were really knowledgable about the subject, you would understand what MLC is talking about.

Sure, 24P cameras mimic the look of 16mm film, but it will never look completely like it. Video is video...simply put. Even if it is in shot in 24fps, it's still not going to have the same quality of film.

It is true that digital cameras are getting closer and closer to being equal with film, but those cameras are extremely expensive and only a handfull of people have the ability to shoot with those, i.e. George Lucas and Robert Rodriguez.

And the settings for 24P mode on the DVX-100A are F5 AND F6. They are 24P and 24P Advanced, respectively. That's the closest you're going to get to a "film-look" without throwing all kinds of color-correction filters on it in post.

So in saying that the DVX-100A shoots "film" based off of what the guy at EVS told you...is sadly off the point that MLC was making in the first place.

lol. I was just messin with ya dude. I didn't think that the dvx had a setting on there that shot in film.

I was just LMAO over here when I read that, and it was too funny for me to touch slimothy

Interesting concept...yikes - more acting rehearsals prior to shooting! Or was that part of the whole gig..?? hmmmm...

Looked like a lot of fun though!

Don't worry I was joking also!

I know you didn’t think there was a film setting on the DVX

or did you and your covering up your mistake

a minor problem was the guy smoking. He doesn't smoke does he? He looked like he was faking it. I quit smoking 12 years ago, so I want to see someone smoking that makes me really want to start again. The actor failed. Just a minor point.
