C100: 2nd camera fo 60p

Planning a 2-camera shoot with one cam being either c100 with ninja2 or c300.
I would like the 2nd camera to to have the ability to shoot at least 1080/60p.
Because this is a client shoot I'd prefer not to use the 60i/60p conversion and want real 60p for pro slo mo.

FS700 comes to mind. Anyone else have thoughts about options that would cut well with canon?

it would be helpful to be able to use canon lenses since we have a number of those, and I assume that would help with the matching.

Thanks.

If I were pairing a Bcam with the C100 it would be the GH4 as it matches well in sharpness and comes acceptably close for DR. Colours will take some tweaking to find what matches. Plus you have the ability to go 96fps if the shot warrants all for under $2k.

Colors-wise, what would you say is the difference? The high speed portion will be needed for a romantic restaurant setting slo-mo, and so warm skin tones and background practical color/bokeh is something I'm looking for. My sense is that the GH4 is a bit colder, color-wise, than canon. Is that the case, for those of you who have used them both? How hard is it to tweak the colors and get nice, warm skin tones with the GH4?

Love the 96fps and easy-on-the-wallet factor!
And the idea of renting that with the voightlander 25mm .95 would probably be sweet.
Any other nice-bokeh lenses that come to mind, perhaps a zoom or two?

Thanks for the help!!

okay...just looked at this comparison:

My sense is that the GH4 seems a bit sharper, but also a bit harsher and video-like. Which concerns me since I'm looking for something warm/soft/romantic for the overcranked scenes. Anyone have experience successfully softening/warming GH4 footage in post.

Is it for web delivery? If yes, then C300 in 720/60p mode would be enough, just upscale it to 1080p (with a good algorithm like Lanczos).

1D C can shoot 1080/60p directly but it's little bit on the soft side, but you will have zero problem matching colours with C100/C300 in post so that's an option for you. If you use Sony you would need to spend a lot of time balancing colours especially skintones as Sony's colour science is vastly different from Canon.

If you really want good quality you can shoot everything with a C500 and external recorder.

The GH4's 96fps will definitely NOT match the C-series for sharpness. And if you just want 60p, the GH3 is very similar for less than half the cost used.

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for your comments.
Yes, it is for web delivery, but the client may be reviewing at 1080 during post-production, so image quality does matter.
So not sure the up-rezzing will hit it or not?
Has anyone seen any HD examples of C300 upres-ing from 720 to 1080?
The C500 is twice the rental price, but in a way it would solve everything: Same sensor and lens compatibility.
Do you know if you need an external recorder with the C500 to get 1080/60?
(At that price, recorder and camera, we're almost at Red Scarlet rental fees)

C300 in 720p is very sharp and detailed, upscale it to 1080p would be enough for web delivery, http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?285524-C300-s-overcrank https://vimeo.com/49729315

C500 without an external recorder is basically a C300.

Are you buying or renting? If you're buying I would suggest something like a GH4. Good enough.

The ideal option is using the C300 60p or the C500 with an extrnal recorder (120p). Both will be better than the GH4 as they'll match your sensor size and colour. But I wouldn't advice going and buying a C300 for the 60p, so really comes down to whether you're buying or renting.

If you're renting I think the C300/500 route is a better option. If you're buying I would say get a GH4 and live with downsides.

Decided!

Hi Marvin,

Your last post and links have convinced me: I'm going to rent a c300 to go with my own c100/ninja2 for this shoot.
They'll match perfectly, and the 720/60 -> 24p looks quite nice in that last link you shared of the butterflies.

Thanks for your knowledgeable advice!
