2k vs 1080p

Hello,

Can someone please explain the differance between 2k and 1080P?

I have the JVC HD2k Projector http://www.avrev.com/equip/jvchd2k/. It's scaler converts all inputs into 1080 60P then sends this to the projector. The projected resolution on screen is 1920 x 1080. So is it a 1080p or 2k projector as the name calls it?

Also, what is the best resolution to scale the RED One footage to view on this system? 1080P or 2K?

I would also like to know the difference between 2K and 1080p. If my final product to be 1080p. I assume any 1080p HD tv should be able to view it, correct?

The Digital Cinema Initiatives spec defines 2k as being 2048 x 1080 available pixels although pixels used depends on the aspect ratio. Either 2048 x 858 for 2.39 or 1998 x 1080 for 1.85. I think in this case JVC are possibly being slightly misleading because they are implying their projector is 2K wheras infact it takes a 2k image and then scales it to 1080p

Yes. 1080p is 1080p
