2fps Night Driving - HVX - StickyPod

I stuck my HVX on top of my car with a sticky pod. A bit un-nerving.

I taped up the mic and every other possible button and crack and put a UV filter on the lens and the camera was fine. Not even a bug splat on the lens.

Yeah, I know, the hood of my Jeep is showing. Next time I will zoom in a little.

The h264 compression really added blocking in the dark sky but the original footage looks much better.

EDIT---

I had to move the files. Here are the new links.

One is full 720p and the other is downconverted to SD.

Right click and download rather than streaming please.

Excellent! Now I want to go break out my cinesaddle and try the same thing!

That was fun.

(and, if anyone DOES break their HVX in any way, please send it to Juan so he can start working on Andromedizing it!)

I'm bustin out my cinesaddle as well !
Hey Barry, you've dropped lots of hints to juan over the last few weeks....any response?
Aloha

I've had some positive response, yes, but as things stand right now they're very busy with their current lineup and keeping up with current orders. I think he'd like to do it, we just have to get a sacrificial HVX to him so he can pull it apart and get the process started...

Was the OIS on? Any other post stabilization? Or was it naturally that smooth?

The more you zoom in to get rid of the hood, the shakier it will seem.

sweet, i forgot how cool undercranking looks, i'm all use to speeding it up in post and the interval recording... i think i'm going to try more of that incamera as well..

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The OIS was on and there is no stabilization done in post. I did attach the camera directly to the StickyPod base without using any extenders. I cut a piece of non-skid rubber (an old mouse pad) to the size of the bottom of the camera to put between the camera and the base. It was also supported by two nylon straps attached to the handle.

Also had a VariZoom monitor and zoom / focus / Iris controller running to the inside of the car to see if the camera was moving at all and to start and stop recording.

I like the StickyPod but with a heavy camera like the HVX I would never use any extenders. They are just not stable enough. I had to attach the camera directly to the base. The suction cups are really strong. I was going as fast as 65 miles an hour for about 5 minutes and they didn't budge a bit.

I'd like to know what Panasonic has to say about potential problems with the scene file hack as well. I'd hate to toast may camera but I cant resist trying to get it to do tricks.

Panasonic is not going to comment on it. What can they say? Any official comment would have to be filtered through their legal department, and you know what that means. If they were to comment, it would probably be along the lines of "don't do it -- we warrant the camera only in its original design and execution, if you step outside those boundaries then you do so at your own risk." I mean, seriously -- what else would/could they say? (not in a "wishlist" type of way, but in a "hey, this is corporate America" type of way.)

Their latest newsletter talks about: "...more exciting news after NAB" or something like that......hmmm

That was very cool. I am so very tempted to play. I am also about to order a sticky pod now......

The big question is,,,, did you run that light on the last right turn? ;)
