28mm, 1.8 - weird glow

Like many, I am jumping on the dlsr bandwagon. I am not totally green when it comes to shooting stills, but by no means am I a pro either.

Anyway, I am experiencing an odd glow around images that are bright or overexposed with my new 28mm f1.8. This anomaly happens on the video feature, too. I have never experienced anything like this, and it doesn't happen on my 70-200 lens.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
T

Some lenses are a little soft at full open aperture. Most of my older Canon FD lenses do the same thing. Try stopping down for a clearer, less soft image.

Your image shouldn't have a soft focus effect like that if you're shooting at f/8.0 with a fast shutter speed of 1/160th, as you've indicated. No amateur shooting skills in the world would produce that kind of defect.

Stupid question, but is the lens clean? (front and back elements?)

It looks like a white pro mist filter was applied, but the same thing could happen with a smudge on the glass.
