25P footage versus 25F footage

Can anyone show me any comparison stills of something shot in 25P and something shot in 25F (preferably using cameras with similar 1/3" chips for a fair comparison).

There is a lot of argument against 25F but it would be good to see the proof in the pudding by actually seeing a still of something shot in 25F to see how it holds up to 25P.

Thanks,

As far as I know, the F modes on the Canon HDV cameras are considered to be identical in the way they render motion to the P modes in other cameras.

I can't think of any comparisons between 25P and 25F, but there are a lot of frame grabs and footage posted on this forum that show the A1 to have a Progressive ability equal to true progressive cameras out there.

The reason Canon calls it F instead of P is because they are using interlaced CCD's in the XH-A1's and XL-H1's, and that all the other progressive cams use progressive CCD's or CMOS chips in their cameras. However, even though Canon is using interlaced sensors, they are still attaining a true progressive image from them due to the way the image is scanned.

The nice thing about the F modes is that you don't have to deal with pulldown like you do with some cameras. This is because the footage is put to tape at 24fps, and not embedded in a 60i video stream.

Here is a description of how the F modes work (from Wikipedia XL-H1 page):

24f is virtually 24p, but is derived from cooler running interlaced CCDs that are clocked at 48Hz. Every two of the 48 fields are captured at precisely the same moment in time providing an ultimate 'progressive' image capture in camera without the need of any additional internal cooling devices for the CCDs. The digital signal processor that enables the CCDs to capture in the "f" frame rate is called DIGIC DV II (DIGital Image Core – DigitalVideo version II). The technology is similar to the DIGIC II that Canon uses for their digital still cameras. Much of the technology is being kept under wraps, and the manufacturer of the CCDs is being kept secret.
