How can i capture 25P video with Adobe premiere pro 2.0? (or lower versions for that matter)

I have searched this topic, with my eyes and with keywords, but i did not found anything, almost everyone is talking about 24P.

I can choose 24p capture in premiere, but i cannot choose to capture progressive footage with premiere. There is a choise between lower field en upperfields, but i cannot choose "non".

So, any suggestions are welcome!

Greetings,
Jerry

Just choose dv pal project settings.I think it doesn't matter if you choose lower field.Since the 25p signal is recorded in interlace method. In premiere pro 1.5 you can choose the option no fields(progressive scan). It must be the same in pro 2.0.

No, i dont have the option to select progressive or non by capture.

However, what i can do is: Capture like normal, lower fields first, and when its on my computer, drag it in a 25P (non fields) timeline. Because premiere does suporurt editing on a NON fields timeline. But i cannot capture it whitout fields.

Do you think that would work?
I dont know why i cannot find a good description about this on google, it seems to me that all PAL users have to deal with this...

I misunderstand.I was talking about the project settings which have the option no fields, not for capture. So,you're right there's no option(no fields)in capture settings only lower(in my pro )
but you don't need this cause as Pukki said it's interlaced on tape too so you must capture with fields or else you can't see your footage if it's true progressive capture without fields at all.
So do it as you said. But even in timeline it doesn't absolute to be no fields option.
I hope you clear this.

So i:

Capture it as DV PAL 16:9 aspect ratio (sqeesed dvx100b footage) ,
lower fields first.

I edit it like normal, lower fields first.

I export it with lower fields first

I burn it...?

:badputer: why is there not a all in one simple solution that is known by everyone?* (*please dont answer this quistion :dankk2: )

I won't answer it, but can I give it an AMEN!

Jerry... There is a system that does allready work without much thinking!
Just got understand the theory and why you can trust it.

You shot as 25P

The video is 25p. That's all that matters. You can NOT interlace your picture - however hard you try! No really, you can't. *

The signal is 50i.

You capture the signal. - you don't actually have a choice on how you capture DV. It just crabs the data stream as it comes off tape.
If you plug an NTSC camera into Premier, it'll capture NTSC DV, even if you are workgin in a PAL project.

Then you edit with the porject settings. This matters, becuse Premier can creat new images. - For exmple a crossfade.
If your project settings are "interlaced", then a 1 seccond fade will have 50 steps - one for each field. If it's "Progressive", then that 1sec fade will have 25 steps - thoguh still techinically recoded into fields if you render/print out to a field based format like DV.

But if you are only dooing clean cuts, then you can edit 25p on ANY (ANY (ANY!)) PAL editing system nativly. It's only when you creat new stuff based on time that it really matters.

Some output formats also diferentiate between fields and frames - for exmple if you decide to convert your 25p video to 10fps video for the web, then it will be best to work in progressive so that teh fields dont' cuase a mixup during framerate conversion.

So interlace/ prograssive settings matter any time you create images, either on the timeline, when encoding, and of course in the camera. But they don't matter when moving or importing ("capturing") with DV.

It's all screwy in NTSC beacuse there's a change in timecode and frames are spread across fields in a strange fassion. Thank god us PAL folk don't have to deal with that crap!

- Mikko ... back in 25p

*Yes, I know that you could theoretically use very creative frame & field blending teniques to do a "reverse de-interlace". But that's just dumb, yo.

:dankk2:

Oke, i understand.

I just capture it with lower fields first.
But when its on the computer, i select no fields (so the new stuff like fades etc. wil be treated as progressive footage) When i go back to tape, i cannot do much.

But when i make a .avi file of it, i do have a choice of selection fields or not.
Do you recommend to keep the settings te same as the capture settings?
So, choose lower fields first by exporting my 25p video?

Its all done (i have posted a topic about the finish result, a 1-minute film)

But now i want to go back to DV tape. The timeline is now 'no fields' can i simply put it back on tape, or...? must i select lower fields (render it as lower fields) and then get it back on tape?

Yes, I'm months late, but I'm having the same problem now, jsut shot some progressive footage with me new sgpro adapter and imported the footage into premiere pro 2.0 with the lower field first project(I'm using PAL camera), I flipped the image and exported an dv-avi file as no field progressive, but seriously, when
i compare tha avi file with the raw dv material there are interlacing lines! I'm going out of my mind, and when i watch the raw material straight from the camera on my 36" tv it looks wonderfull(though upside down), but after flipping image in premiere and exporting it on tape to watch on my tv, it looks like crap, lines everywhere and a little weird motion. What can I do? I never had this problem before.
