$250 Rebate... Buyers remorse anyone?

Canon is just making sure that nothing that is released at NAB takes any thunder away from them. Now some folks who were waiting for NAB will say screw it give me the A1 now for $3250. Smart move canon. Canon has stomped all over the prosumer market. They have the most expensive/greatest HDV camera XL H1 and the most cost effective Prosumer hdv camera the A1 and now the cheapest 24p hdv camera the HV20 on the market they are truely kicking A##.

LoL at remorse over a $250 rebate. This little cam has made me a bucket of $$ since I bought it at full price last november. Another year and the A1 will be out of my hands, if that.

Canon releases product relatively quickly, usually within 6 to 10 weeks of the announcement. Panasonic, JVC and Sony usually pre-announce months and months before release.

And then there's Red. I wonder if they'll be there with their product to be released in the next 16-100 months. :Drogar-Mad(DBG):

Uh huh.

That's one thing I like about Canon, they wait until their products are out (or just about out) before hyping them. Though I don't completely get the $250 rebate concept either, I like the aggressive marketing.

Though I will credit Panasonic big time. They say they'll be putting something out, plus when, and what it will do, and they have a track record of coming through quite well. All while putting out increasingly superior and bold products with great CS. For example, while the Red specs are higher, I'm more interested in Panny's HVX500.

Barry - Are you in NC? I thought you were an LA boy?! What city in NC if you don't mind us asking. Such a beautiful state.

But really, when you think about it, it all comes down to the price! The Canon is substantially cheaper than anything else in its segment... sure i would have liked a JVC HD110U, but with the money i saved, i can buy a steadicam and tripod!

The only thing that worries me, is that Canon may be doing this rebate thing because they have gotten wind of something coming down the pipeline from the competitors... And it is not RED, The RED camera is fifteen times more expensive than an A1!

Then again, the newest entry to the HD prosumer market, the V1U, is much more expensive than the Canon, and it is getting lower ratings in the reviews... Good Time to be a filmmaker!

Because the OIS on the new Canon's are so nice, try one out with the DV Rig if you can (by Varizoom), you may prefer it to a Steadicam - plus, it's a lot easier to carry.

Uh...you're adding everything up, lenses, bricks, HD system, cage, etc. But I see your point, they are not in the same price group no matter how you slice it. Of course, the Red isn't even out yet, and if you ordered one today, odds are it wouldn't be delivered to you until the end of the year.

I agree with you on the V1. It's unique and I like it's modulars and HDMI out, but it just doesn't seem to match the Canon (or HVX) in my eyes. The V1 seems to be the camera they should have released a year ago.
