24P V1U clips now online

Need to see these native to really tell. Some of the artifacting may be bad WMV compression.

I guess Sony no longer considers 24p to be a "gimmick," then?

1/4" chips :crybaby:
«Further, because of Sony’s CMOS design, the photosensitive sites of these 1/4in. CMOS chips are identical in size to those of the 1/3in. CCDs used in the Z1.»

I like the footage and the colors but I was hoping for some close ups to checkout skintones definition and so on. They claim the CMOS they are using increases the dynamic range and that is something that REALLY interests me, but you get absolutely no indication of this on this footage.

I'm tempted to do it if the HVX isn't involved. Then nobody can whine "bias this" or "bias that". Of course, they still WILL, but... hey, what more can I do? :)

peace to (not my old but brand new friend..) peace to the world..

edit
peace and good will

This is something I don't get. Sony gives us our first footage of their new 24p film like camera and they focus on a dark shadowy figure against a bright sky reminding me why film is so much better than video....Latitude.... Sony, I want to forget little details like that and have a happy life with my hvx, so please send the team in charge of promotional video clips back to silicon imaging.

i think the Para 1 & 2 show a very good dynamic range ... look at the distant mountains .. each one is lighter .. the sky above the last mountain top is very bright especially when the sun comes into frame .. note the edge on the very last mountain or i should say the lack of electronic edge enhancement/artifacting ( no hard line ) IMO this is type of shot is where many handsize video camera's fall apart .. at the same time i can see into the darks of persons para gliding, valley floor looks good ... i'm impressed - look forward to see how it handles controlled lighting shots ...

Errrg. Just read the process used to create that VASST clip. Processed in 60i then converted back to 24p. Looks like there wasn't much that could be done differently, but it still makes it impossible to judge 24p characteristics fairly.

i dont understand how they say a 1/4 Cmmos is the same size as a 1/3 CCd? Are they making the inference?

I agree with donatello, the DR appears to be very good at the moment.
I can't say it's definitive, given this one sample, but after seeing more samples we'll know for sure if the improvements to the clearvid CMOS sensors are to credit.
I also suspect some special touches were made to the optics.
Aside from the zoom, does anybody know if there’s anything else improved in the lens?
