Hello guys,
I visited the local canon dealer to purchase my xl-h1 last week. I told him My mission was to make short films. I'm from pal land and he said that if I bought the Pal camera as it was, it would be no good for me as I would need to make an upgrade first to make it NTSC switchable. That will cost me an extra couple of hundered euros(7-8 hundred dollars). Am I being ripped off? Is it important for me to make this switch.I thought 25 would work just as well as 24f.My mission is to make short films.I going to purchase the g35 when its released and use my computer for editing(No Deck). I want to compress all my movies onto dvds. Can 24f be filmed in hd?Will the frame rates work well with the g35 in sd and hd modes?

You don't need the NTSC upgrade, 25F is fine for filmmaking. I've never been able to tell the difference between 24 and 25p, and I'm sure most others familiar with the subject would agree. 25F/P easily converts to 24p too, so no worries.

I was thinking about getting the upgrade on the a1 when its released but of course no info as to the cost as yet. In addition Im using FCP studio which makes rendering out to PAL or NTSC simple from either source.

I think the upgrade only makes sense if you frequently travel back and forth between 50/60hz countries.
