24f vs 24p

I'm thinking about selling my dvx and picking up an A1. I'm wondering how well the 24f stand up to 24pa. 24f is not true 23.98 correct? I'm thinking that if 24f is the same as 24p (not advance) then I could use it since 24p and 24pa look pretty much the same, just can't edit on a 24 timeline with 24p. I want to be able to get the same filmic look as well as have HDV capability. Also, how are the manual contols on the camera? does it have contol over gamma, ped, matrix, detail, and all that stuff that the dvx has?

24F is fine. Only worry is that you have to make sure your NLE supports it, and that you won't have any issues playing it back. What I mean by that is, no Sony or JVC HDV equipment can play back 24F footage, so if you're thinking you'll get hired as a stringer or freelancer and then just turn the tape over to someone, you'd have to make sure they had a Canon HDV camcorder.

If you're using it for your own editing and digitizing from your own XHA1, then 24F is going to look the same as 24p as far as motion goes.

I'm considering the A1 as well Barry as I just sold my DVX100B. I use Avid Liquid 7.2 and have a Sony DSR-11 as well as Sony HVR-M15U deck.

Using the A1 as a deck to ingest shot 24f, what is that actually in my system then?

...also, if you get hired as a stringer, chances are you will be shooting 60i and that will work fine in any HD deck.

SD 60i, as well as SD 30f will also capture perfectly in any MiniDV deck. Does anyone know whether SD 24f also does?

And again, to reiterate the record, 24f is 24p. To say it's not true progressive is inaccurate; the only difference is the A1 uses interlaced chips to deliver the progressive image. Which doesn't matter. At all. Really.

I just purchased an A1, and when they say its worth the price they mean it. I currently have 2 dvx100a & b, I have not picked them up since I got my A1. It is as if Canon made a go between for the DVX100 & HVX200. I call it my HDV 100. The sharpness it unbelievable for the price, and the fact that I will always have my taped footage is a plus. I so wanted an HVX200, but am satisfied with the A1. By the way the optics is a little spungy, but the picture quality is mind blowing. Beside if your using a 35mm adapter that won't be an issue.

I mixed hv20 24f with 24p from my DVX, i've made mpeg2 files and have yet to put them on a DVD, but I don't see a difference - aside from the obvious that the hv20 footage looks sharper
