24F Mode

Okay, I'm trying to understand 24F mode. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Canon shoots in 24F and 30F in 1080i, the differences of each are obvious to the eye.

The HVX200 shoots in 1080i at 24P or 720p at 24P.

What's the difference, for instance, between 1080i at 24P on the HVX and 1080i at 24F on the A1?

Nothing substantial, other than the HVX using 4:2:2 color. As far as overall resolution and motion rendition they're basically the same.

So which mode would you prefer using on the HVX, Barry?

I'm getting versed with using both cameras, so...

I always use 1080/24pA on the HVX unless I'm short of recording space, in which case I use 720/24pN.

For shooting "reality" events like sports, I use 720/60p.

Cool, why Advanced pulldown? Sorry, I know that should be a no-brainer. :D

Because editing programs understand advanced pulldown. FCP can strip it out, and EDIUS can remove it, and RayLight can strip it out; in all those cases you get the raw 24P.

No editor (other than EDIUS, IINM) can remove 2:3 pulldown from 1080 footage yet.
