24 f capture into fcp studio help!

I now know that fcp isn't truly compatible with canon's 24f function. But here I am with, a ton of SD 24f footage and fcp as my editing system. I need suggestions from those who have encountered this problem before. Apple says, try all the presets and see which one looks the best, well they all look pretty bad. I am encountering jagged edges and scan lines no matter how I ingest this. Has anyone found a setting that works. Again, this is SD 24f going into FCP studio. HD 24f goes in just fine.

Thanks!

Canon HDV 24f capture in FCP trouble

you said above that you could digitize HDV footage that is 24f just fine but not SD. What were your presets for capturing at 24f HD, please...

Well a couple things:

- Final Cut Pro *IS* fully compatible with the Canon 24F mode. It has been for quite some time now too.
- If you shot in 24F HDV, then you use the Apple 1080p24 HDV preset, or use the 1080p24 HDV-to-ProRes preset if you want to capture directly into ProRes. in HD mode, 24F is laid to tape with no pulldown, it's straight 24 frames per second on tape.
- In SD, 24F is laid to tape by embedding it in 60i (ala DVX100). It uses a 3:2 or 3:2:2:3 advanced pulldown. Depending on what pulldown you used to shoot, will determine how you capture it.

If you used 3:2:2:3 pulldown, then you can cpature using the DV NTSC 23.98 preset and enable "remove advanced pulldown". This will tell Final Cut Pro to remove the pulldown ont he fly as you capture, bringing in true 24p footage in your system.

If you shot using 3:2 pulldown, well then you will have to capture using the standard DV NTSC preset and then remove the pulldown afterwards using either COmpressor or Cinema Tools.

But whatever the case, Final Cut Pro fully supports Canon's 24F.

Hope this helps.

You should be fine with "anamorphic" I shot 16x9 SD and it worked perfectly. I'm on FCP 5.
