2009 Academy Award Nominations

Overdue for an Academy Award? Katheryn Bigelow? Which films are you referring to
that haven't been given their due?
Hmmm. Good point. She's made some interesting movies in the past but nothing that I'd give a Oscar to.

On a side note, she sure is a young looking 59 years old.

that's what I was wondering... The Hurt Locker is the first, imo, award-worthy film she's made.

I'm pulling for Avatar for most technical awards.

The Hurt Locker should get best picture, director, editing, sound, cinematography, etc.

The Academy banned producer Nicolas Chartier from the awards show, not allowed on the property because he tried to solicit votes (against rules). I doubt it'll win best pic now, most academy members are revolting against it so it has no chance for best picture, it does have a chance for best director and I think it'll get the Oscar for that while Avatar takes best pic.

You guys do know the tv audience does not vote. Some of you talk like you think they do.

Do you guys know what's going on right now with the academy and the people who do vote? Anyone?

The ballots went in several weeks ago and therefore any 'scandals' involving producers trying to one-up the competition are too late to influence the voting, for one thing.

There are some awards programs wherein the opinion of the general public counts for something (People's Choice Awards, I guess, if the name advertises truthfully) but the Academy Awards and Emmy Awards are not in that category. Sorry, folks, for your opinion to count for something there you need a membership card.

But he did send the email out on Feb 19th. LINK
According to the article the voting closed Tuesday, March 2nd @ 5:00pm.

I don't think he would be banned from the Oscars had he done this after the voting. If that was the case he wouldn't have broken any rules?

I hate "vote begging." Of course, that wouldn't happen around DVXUser, would it?

I'm the dude on the top left.

I love how Roger Corman is getting an award for being Roger Corman. Don't get me wrong, I still love the guy.

No worries.

Like I said before, I bet many Producers have done the same thing in the past. He just got caught. He's a newb. :)

NEVER! Not one producer in the past has ever sent out emails doing that... It's a big deal and there is a lot more to it than has been publicized so far. I'll bet it all comes out in 30 days.

I meant it's probably not the first time a Producer has crossed the line in terms of trying to generate votes. Not necessarily in email or written form, that would be stupid. :)

Me too.

The only thing that would be more perfect would be if he was given the "Roger Corman Award," for being Roger Corman...
