2 Big Sur videos 2 Raw capable cameras :)

Indeed: CineForm RAW debayered in Resolve looks pretty nice (if you can get your colors right), and it's both a fast workflow and relatively light on storage.

* shoot RAW
* convert directly to CFRAW (no need to go DNG first) with the utility from here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5479.50
* edit that in Premiere (with decent playback speed!)
* export to Resolve, do color grading and final render there

That way, you only have the original .raw files, the compressed CineForm RAW files (which take between a fifth and a tenth of the space of the original raw files) and your final render.

Those colors are pretty different! Progress but accurate color is very important. Can't wait until all of this stuff gets ironed out. I am sure it will as the interest level is very high.

JFR, do you even have a BMC? If not, have you ever shot with the BMC?

Have you shot with an Red Epic (Dragon Sensor) ? Sony F55? 70mm Film.......

You see where this is Going.....

Just because you clearly stated many many times BMCC was not the camera for you doesn't change anything. Some people like 5D, others like C100, GH Panasonic Series, etc.
Point is just like you cannot change my mind I cannot change yours.

I just shot yesterday with a 5D and I like my GH3 better, doesn't mean one camera is nicer than the other. IMHO I prefer the detail image from the BMCC over and relatively low cost camera right now. Such beautiful wide shots in high detail and smooth highlight roll offs looks very beautiful to me.

Patiently waiting My Black Magic pocket camera......

I'll take that as a no judging by your response.

Ummm, not many if any have shot with the dragon sensor as the firmware is in limited hands. Sony F55 is too fresh and not many have it. 70mm, yes I've shot many many many frames of 70mm in both my Hassleblad and Mamiya systems back when I shot film. I've also shot 254mm (8x10 view camera) and 127mm (4x5 view camera).

For your sake, I hope you don't wait as long as most people I know waited for their first BMCC.

I hope that by the time you get it, BMD doesn't release another series of cameras. I know some very unhappy people who are going through both those phases.

I also hope that you didn't base your decision to buy the Pocket Camera by seeing videos online, because when I had tested the BMCC, it looked great until I started moving it (shoulder mounted or on a steadicam) or shooting buildings in downtown Singapore (moire city). I ended up keeping my 5D.

The BMC offered a much sharper image, great storage options and a great recording format. Sadly, even with all of those options, the 5D stayed and now with the hack its gonna stay longer.

Just an FYI, I shoot mostly on 35mm, Alexa and my 5D. I shot on an ARRI 765 and while the resolution is spectacular, the weight and noise issues left a negative impact on me. I don't think I'd want to shoot it again. Also, I think a 35mm IMAX blowup is almost as good as the 65mm source. Shooting the F55 now, just some lens tests (Ultras vs S4s) but loving it. Probably will shoot it lots more again. If RED gives me a Dragon, I'll find a way to shoot with it. One thing about the 5D though, you'd be amazed how many reshoots/alternate angles have been shot with it intercut with 35mm and Alexa footage. Clients have never pointed to a 2K cinema screen, a film projection or their HDTV and said "Hey, that shot looks off!"

regarding the image on the 5d looking noisy, this is because a grain layer was added to this video in post. nothing to do with the raw footage.

Yes a grain layer was applied but that isn't the cause of the noise in some of the shots. The main one is with the wives standing on the cliff at 1:35. I found a good amount of noise in some of the shadows. We were really pushing it though.

I'll add some single frame shots ungraded tomorrow at work.
