2.5 external SATA drive?

I really want to be untethered.. I'm on a quest to make a laptop a more portable editing system. I'm a bit out of my league, but trying to figure out why there isn't an external 2.5" portable SATA drive (with a SATA connection) that runs off it's own power??

Ideally, a great set up (small, powerful, and extremely portable) would be the Duel Systems’ ExpressCard connected to a 2.5 SATA drive,, and the ultimate -powered by a separate battery, like on-the-go.

The G-tech mini a great form factor but is bus powered and it'll put a drain on laptop's bat life. It's also FW, and expensive ($309 for 1000Gb 7200rpm)
 
That is a great looking enclosure. And yes, you can power from an external source. I have used my Tekkeon MP3400 to power everything from a Firestore to an external 3.5" SATA drive. That portable battery is amazing.

Never sore the Tekkeon before but I now have two on order !

That Tekkeon is a great universal battery, fairly inexpensive, and it has a pretty large capacity. THANKS!
To compare, the MacBook pro battery is 60 Watt/hr and this Tekkeon is 56 Watt/hr.
Ned, how long can you run an external hard drive from that?
Hooking that battery up to a Sata 2.5" external drive would provide the smallest form factor for going mobile with the MBP. Anyone know if they exist (2.5 Sata enclosures)?

Well, now it seems I just buy the Seritek SATA express34 card, the NGear SATA enclosure, a decent drive (hitachi 7200 SATA) and a Tekkeon MP3400 battery, and I'm set to go edit completely cordless,, I hope.
Looks like it'll cost about 110, 30, 109, and 120 (respectively) and a total of $360ish

If this works out, with decent battery life, I'll probably work on a latop-pad to house the battery and drive.
 
I ran an external Wiebetech SATA enclosure with a Seagate 750 gb drive most of the way between Heathrow and O'Hare, with the MacBook Pro itself powered from the in-seat power supply of the AA 777 in (don't tell anybody-- coach-- it is the first time I have flow international coach in over 3 years). I was editing with a whole crowd of geeks over my shoulder and it was also a real chick-magnet.

Seriously, I ran the drive for at least 4 1/2 hours and the Tekkeon still had a charge.

It comes with several power tips and I found that one of them worked with my Firestore and one works with the harddrive.

It is an amazing piece of gear-- and lightweight too.
