Recently i took on the responsiblity of making a wallpaper/installation/bumper for my Directing 3 class at UCF. ive always wanted to shoot through a medium format camera, this opportunity gave me the excuse to try it. we used a monitor arm to mount the 1D straight down looking through the viewfinder setting focus on the viewfinder.

The original idea was a robot out in the woods which would have shown off the DoF and feild of view characteristics a (50mm nikon vs the medium format 50) but it rained. so i had to reimagine the project. after thinking about what movies are; flashing light. i put the robot in that; flashing light. i then set it to the sound track of what people currently like, top 40s pop music, tik tok, telephone and party in the usa.

The making of is very cool.

The video itself - a good work of editing, good rhytmic feeling, cool idea with the matte as a framing device - but the lack visual variety makes it boring to look at very fast and most people won't watch all 10 minutes of it.

Why did you guys choose to use only one static camera angle?

its an intermission to a UCF shorts program. its supposed to act as wallpaper for a 10 min break so ppl can talk and go to the bathroom while also providing a unique atmosphere. So it wasnt really intended to be watched for the full duration its more like what they play on stacks of tvs in dance clubs.its alot more impressive when projected in HD 25 feet across.

it also plays on some inside jokes between the film makers like "the oner", concept over story, "giving people what they want" and features a robot that pops up in several films and projects.

"giving people what they want" refers to shallow depth of field, robots, blinking lights ect.
