1DC: 1DC- Sound recording via line input woes

Have the latest firmware update on my 1DC. There are 3 issues I am hoping someone can help with

#1 I assume you must set Sound recording to 'Line input' and NOT manual, but if I set the Rec level, whenever the camera is powered off, either automatically or manually, this Rec level is ALWAYS reset to zero. This seems like a firmware bug to me. This does NOT happen when set to manual. Anyone know of a workaround?

#2 When setting Sound input to Manual, the VU meters are visible, but NOT when set to Line input. Why?

So the solution seems to be, until Canon gets it right, to stick with Manual, and either set the input levels to the first click or use an attenuator.

Can anyone recommend a specific connector -attenuator to use between ZoomH6 and 1DC?
Is this what I need?

Even if Canon does manage to fix this firmware issue, it looks like that cable is probably just a good a solution as using the actual line level input. I'm pretty sure that Canon just implemented their own pad on the input rather than having a direct path to the A/D converter.

The latest news I got from Canon is that they are working on a fix and "it should be available soon, please keep an eye on our website".

One thing we'll never find out is how such an obvious error like this can happen. QC applies to software as well as hardware. Especially for firmware on a $12G camera that can ONLY be installed by the manufacturer. geesh!

My guess is that V1.3.4 is just an interim firmware to fill the gap before the next big one (which takes longer to develop), so people won't think Canon has abandoned this product. While they rushed to release it, somebody forgot to check if line level input works during recording.

I really hope that they are working on a broader firmware release.

What amazes me is that it took about 5 months for this major glitch to start to be reported. That baffles me. Admittedly, line level input is a fairly limited feature that most people would never use with this camera. I am sure that most 1D C owners never sent in their camera for the update as it would take their camera out of operation for a couple of weeks and line level input could be easily solved with the purchase of an adapter that would cost less then the cost of shipping their camera to Canon. I sincerely hope that Canon did not take the lack of interest in their firmware update to be a lack of interest in a broader firmware update for the camera. Just a few changes to the firmware on the 1D C could make it a much more viable video camera for guerrilla filmmaking and events. Anything that would make it more inline with the rest of the Cinema EOS family would change opinions about the camera.
