1DC: 1DC exposure tests: best method for judging light exposure???

Will do James. Regarding the two close up images of the lady's face that you posted (the one with red arrows), I find the lower snapshot to have more detail, am I right?

Yes! Thank you for the feed back. I know it was rather self evident.

Both screen shots are from the same camera, same light, same lens, same exposure, same everything except the picture styles.

A = C-log
B = Neutral

B obviously has more shadow detail. Meaning, you can underexpose with Neutral, but not with C-log. They are at least a stop different. Conversely C-log has much better highlight retention, and has overall better latitude.

Judging from the raw stills, neutral is very similar, but c-log is distinct. Some users early on noted C-log at 12stops DR, and neutral as low as 9, but I find the difference not so big in final image, though c-log is at least a stop better in feel. Sorry for no hard numbers. I do not have a chart. I have just done under and over exposure tests, and c-log has more leverage.

So, it is possible because of the way c-log is designed. It may be lowered gain, and then pushed back up to maximise dynamic range or latitude. That is all theory and Canon has no info on it so far.
