1DC: 1DC best hybrid?

I have been shooting with a 5D MKIII for a couple of years and I come to like the workflow of using a DSLR for both stills and video. The problem is the 5D video is so poor in details and DR. I could buy a separate video camera, but I would prefer to stay with just one cam. The 1DC seems like it is the most capable in both categories at this point. What am I missing? Is it not as good as the 5D or a 1DX as a stills camera?

Should be identical to a 1DX for stills. I still want one as it would be a great stills and video cam in the dslr form factor but now we are less than 1 month from the NAB show and I'm suspecting new cameras are going to be announced.

I am definitely waiting until after NAB, but I anticipate that the 1DC will be cheaper. For me, the only downside at this point is frame rate options. Not a deal-breaker though.

The 1DC is a great camera. I've used it in jobs such as this one :

Alongside Red Cameras (most of the footage in the above video), its very hard to separate or identify which is which. The only downside is that the camera does overheat and freezes after long extended usage, and requires the absolute best and fastest CF cards to be close to reliable in situations like the ones in the video above. It also "eats" Gbs like a Hummer eats petrol, so bear this in mind. Picture quality is exactly like the 1DX which we also have. If it drops to a 3 to 4K price point its a bargain, a must have full frame stills camera that is weather sealed and produces amazing motion pictures. Also a bit of Rolling Shutter, but nothing unmanageable.

Best picture you can get under a red or alexa. And its small. And its a very good stills camera. You have to get a workflow together for it, but with the 256 GB Komputerbay Cards(I always buy at amazon and test extensively so I can send the card back if its faulty) and a MacbookPro Retina 15 from 13 or later the only issue is (cheap) external harddrives. Been shooting stock for corbis, jobs and free stuff for 2 years with it now. If you shot in 4K your a broadcast certified in Europe(when delivering 1080). I hope these drop even more in price than I will get a B-Cam soon.
Last journalistic free project I shot with it in 4K: https://youtu.be/wakYiVcigto

NICE!
How much Gbs is let's say 1h of footage? Are you transcoding it to something else once it's offloaded?

As a photo/video guy myself, I would happily trade my 5DIII for a 1DC if their price dropped again to around $6000. You'd get a flagship Canon stills camera with great iso and fps, plus 4K internal+C-Log in one of the most robust, small form factor body designs currently available with limited additional equipment required aside from an EVF/Monitor with exposure tools/peaking and maybe a Stereo Video Mic X. Though not ideal as an A cam for me, it would serve extremely well in tough conditions when I need to travel light with a small body, or if I need to shoot at 6400+iso for whatever reason. Despite its hefty 4K codec, large CF cards are pretty cheap now days and a quick conversion to 4K prores/DNxHR in Davinci upon ingest would help save HDD space on your work station.

If you like shooting DSLR video, it would make a lot of sense.

How is battery life? (both for filming and stills)

2 256GB Cards give me around 2:10hrs, which is enough for most day long shoots. So 1 hr is around 240GB. I offload with the Canon app to my Internal 1TB HD, and then I transcode to ProresLT to an external drive which drops the filesize to well under 200Gb for 1 Hour.

Big filesizes yes, but the Quality is worth it IMHO. And USB3 2 or 3 TB drives are dead cheap nowadays.

Unfortunately, I don't know first hand. I know in stills mode, generally 1D's have exceptional battery life. In video, Shane Hurlbut states you could shoot a full day in 4K across 3 batteries. Each battery's roughly $160USD each, so that's really not too bad all things considered, especially as the batteries are small (compared to V-Locks anyhow).

I have 3 Batteries and that has always been enough for a days shot. I also use the zacuto evf when shooting video and I turn of hdmi mirror, so the camera does not have to power the screen. With that sometimes 1 battery is enough for 3-4 hours of shooting.
