C500: 1DC: autofocus

There is no auto focus.

It's similar to how a 5Dmk2 or mk3 would work: you press the AF-ON button (before starting to shoot) to lock focus. However, this only works in the full frame modes.

It's not available in S35 crop mode, or 4k mode. Sad but true. It's not that Canon has limited the camera on purpose, but it has more to do with how the sensor is being read in the modes that aren't full frame.

For S35 and 4k shooting you have the zoom option before you start to shoot--after that, it's manual.

there is in Live mode... how is autofocus working? Can anyone post a test please?I also found this here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=IoZCpYG2KcMIs this the autofocus or something similar also available on 1DC?Or this is not possible to find on 1DC because of the existence of autofocus in Live mode? Anyone can test it please?
AF can sure work in 4K mode, have not try the S35 though, but is just better than none. A bit quicker than the 5D3 but no where near the 70D or the new C100 ( after upgrade) If you keep holding the af-on button it seems to track too, but you better be tracking a turtle

Let me bring this topic up. I haven't been able to get AF in this camera when canon LOG is on. Switch it of, and there you go. Is this normal behavior?

AF can sure work in 4K mode…

Reading this, I first thought to myself "errr... no it doesn't". Then I realized you're probably talking about the Live "smiley face" Mode. That will work outside of Canon Log.

In my earlier post I was strictly referring to real auto focus form the actual AF-sensor in the camera (called Quick AF in Live View). I wasn't clear about that. Sorry for the confusion.
