C300: 1DC and Sony F55 4k Side by Side

Not sure how 1DC is more rescuable from underexposure than F55 when the article calls out the lack of detail in blacks on the 1DC. The article says nothing about the difference in dynamic range between F55 and 1DC, this is something the F55 excels at, even beyond the Alexa, with the benefit of lower noise and higher resolution. And, of course, the F55 can shoot 4k RAW, which is not an option for the 1DC. I just can't imagine any real production choosing the 1DC over the F55, given adequate budget.

I would agree with your last quote but Wedding Videographers would make great use of the 1DC.
There is a market for candid Wedding Photography and there is money to be made using a 1DC for Video and quality Stills from the same video.
Imagine being able to order Exactly the shot you want?

Focusing with an EF lens that has a few centimeters of focus ring action is not good. You can't be serious? Move the focus ring one mm and you've lost your focus. I found it quite hard to nail focus in a hury. You need manual lenses that have a longer focus ring. But this lenses don't usualy have AF which is a nice thing to have when shooting docs and news.

I'm with Mareek on this. I pull focus all the time on my EF lenses (24 1.4, 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8) and aside from lenses like the 135 F2 and the 100 2.8 Macro, the focus ring throw have all worked marvellously pulling focus on the fly. I use a Zacuto magnifier and that's all I need.

I think the 1DC is still very attractive to a lot of us who shoot events and doc-type stuff on the fly. Love the ability to re-compose with the additional res. and still maintaining a small tight package for running around discreetly. And the weather sealing.

I downloaded the 4k footage and graded the C-log and S-log2. Both cameras are terrific. The F55 4k is a little sharper but the 1DC was still fantastic. I love grading theses cinema logs, the detail and range is gorgeous. The down conversion to HD from 4k is hardly a letdown. The 4k I could only view on the pc but the detail in both cameras is aplenty.
