1DC: 1dc / 1dx generic batteries: charging issues - flashing green LED's

Wondering if anyone deals with generic batteries for your 1dx or 1dc (LP-E4N) - I have a few from DSTE, they work great generally, aren't that old. But recently, when I try to charge them, all 3 green led's flash in stead of charging solid. I've tried hitting the calibrate button but nothing happens. Any experience appreciated.

'If all three charge level indicators blink in green, it means that the battery's internal temperature is not 0-40 degrees celcius/32-104 Fahrenheit. The battery will start recharging when the internal temperature is within 0-40 degrees celcius/32-104 Fahrenheit'

Your generic battery is not communicating correctly with Canon charger. Either use the generic charger, or just buy genuine Canon batteries.

Hm, the generics didn't come with a charger, and the temp is def in that range in my room, and they used to charge in it, but they have worked fine for maybe 10 days of shooting over 2 months, so I don't think they're spent - but maybe they're just cheap crap and they're done? Also my charger has seemed wack at times, so maybe it's on it's way out. Suppose I should have a second anyway - anyone know a safe and cheap alternative to the Canon brand charger? I found one on Amazon with no reviews so I steered clear...

It's the internal temp of the batteries, not the ambient temp in the room. Although if the batteries have been sitting in a very hot or cold environment, that can affect them on the charger. I've had A/B batts sit on the charger in a "HOLD" state after I brought them in from extreme temps, until the batt temp stabilized and got in range.

I'm not trying to pick on the OP, but why do people spend thousands of dollars on cameras and then buy off-brand batteries to save a few dollars? Especially with Canon, who has mechanisms in place to keep non-OEM batts from working or having full compatibility/functionality. These cameras aren't like our ENG/Broadcast/Cine cameras that are intended from the get-go to work with all types of third party equipment. To me, it just doesn't seem worth it.

I am sure there will be a few people who will say that they have had good experience with non-canon batteries. However, In the past I have had non-Canon batteries suddenly give up. So for the last decade or so, I have been buying original canon batteries. I have also seen non-OEM batteries lose shape ie deform while charging. Haven't seen non-Canon batteries blowing up but have seen non-OEM mobile phone batteries blowing up. Too much of a risk.

Why buy generic Canon batteries if you're spending $5,000 - $7,000 for an authentic Canon camera (doesn't make sense to me).

No need to go cheap on batteries. Just buy the genuine Canon batteries........
