1920x1080pa workflow in fcp? Setting sequence settings, flipping footage, etc.

This would make for a great sticky if we get some good info. I know several people who would want to know some crucial settings for editing 1920x1080pa footage in fcp 6.0 and up. If someone can layout the steps of after the footage is "log and transfered" that would be great. I could try getting it right, and do relentless hours of testing, but if someone has already done the work and would like to share and add some crucial non biased info, great.

I already know how to log and transfer, and there are plenty of free tutorials on how to do that already, and import your p2 footage. My question is, now what? More speficially aimed at a 1080pa workflow, especially because the 2:3:3:2 pulldown and getting your sequence settings set up correctly before editing is so important.

Do you do a custom settings and force a 1920 x 1080, because it only goes up to 1920x1440 and 1280. And do you manually set the frame rate to 23.976?
I thought when you bring in your clip into the sequence, it can set it up for you, but it creates either a 23.976 or 29.97 timeline sequence depending if you say yes or no on using the clips original settings.

So yeah, just a simple sequence settings and explanation as to why my 1920x1080pa footage is interlaced in my timeline, even though I clicked the remove pulldown frames upon log and transfer and set my sequence settings to 23.976 with no interlacing.

I just want to know the following regarding 1920x1080pa footage in fcp 6;

1. how the sequence settings should be set up if I want to edit in and have my project be 1920x1080 23.976 with dvcpro hd codec, do I just do a custom setup? Easy setup does this but does it create the default sequence settings like that?

2. how to properly have the footage without the interlacing, which should not be there at all if you click the remove pulldown frames check box which I did! Am I doing something wrong? I really think so.

3. how to flip the image from the redrock micro m2 adapter without having to rerender in fcp, use a fcp filter of some sort?

I know we can go on and debate on this topic for days, but honestly, I am shooting a feature starting on Saturday, and wanted to start editing right away, and really do some tests editing before the shoot date.

So just some crucial knowledge and settings would be great as opposed to opinionated ideas of frame sizes, rates, etc, which can be discussed at a later time.

I hope you guys help, and I will always be on this forum to share my knowledge I hope to gain after working on my feature film, and hitting many obstacles and challenges along the way which I plan to share with all of you, thanks!

Hi Clint - didn't we just talk ;)

use motion tab and rotate 180 degrees. It will also keep the clips properly oriented in Color.

Ha, thanks Brian, yeah thats funny we just spoke. Sweet Ill give that a shot about the flipping. The micro mount is great by the way thanks so much.

So yeah I just hope someone would be able to answer my very basic getting started with 1080pa in fcp question. Its really weird, from what I have always been told its so easy, just hit the pulldown switch and wallah. Well its not so wallah for me unfortunatley, I am still trying to figure it out.
