180 rule and the D7000?

I'm studying up for my first D7000 dslr shoot. It will be shot at night. I checked out the lighting and looks like I will have to shoot wide open @ 2.8, Iso 2200 to 3200 and I was hoping to use shutter speed to 60 in 720p @ 30fps. My second camera only opens to 3.5 variable aperture, (18-200mm) it is not very sharp at this setting. Output to DVD. I understand the 180 rule and am wondering what is the downfall of dropping to a shutter speed of 30, because I would like to keep ISO down as far as possible. Any pointers would be gladly accepted. I will also be running my trusty DVX100a for audio and backup.

180 rule, in my opinion is highly overrated for what it sounds like the kinda quality and shot you are working with.
At this point, shutter and filmic blur are a moot point... considering your shooting at 30p and not 24p.
Also, your shooting with the Nikon D7000 which is okay for "run of the mill" video DSLR... but at 3,200 iso your fighting a LOT of noise.
Personally speaking, i'd not cross over 1,600 iso with almost any DSLR... hacked or unhacked.
Either boost your available lights or avoid the 180º rule for this night shoot.

I just watched the final footage and I must say It looked very good for 2200/3200 ISO. I stayed at 60fps after all. I know it was not ideal but was very surprised to see it uprezed so well to HD.

And don't ever be afraid to break those rules... As long as you know their purpose you can use them to your advantage in some cases. They deal with how motion plays into the camera. If you shoot below that, you get a little more ghosting when quick movement happens. In the case of an interview, It may not hurt to have lowered your shutter and bring your iso down a bit. When you go beyond the 180 you will get crisp sharp footage when dealing with fast motion but it looks very surreal and hard to watch after a bit. Hope that helps. Keep shooting.
