16x9 setting on DVX100A

I'm shooting footage that will be cut into a film shoot on a JVC GY-HD110U, that shoots true 16x9.
I don't have an anamorphic lens for my DVX 100A, so is the squeeze a better setting than the letterbox in this situation? I want it to look as close to the JVC footage as possible. I realize there will be a difference in resolution.

Squeeze is an actual 16:9 mode, but letterbox is a 4:3 frame with the superimposed bars. I never use letterbox though...

do not use letterbox because it is on top of the image. Any color correction will also affect the bars on the top and bottom

Oh wow! I didn't know that! I am NEVER going to use letterbox again! I do a lot of color correction but luckily, it has been on squeeze or 4:3 footage!

btw, when you capture squeez in FCP or any other editing program, does it automatically captures in 16:9? I never really thought about it but anyone know?

also if you have mixed footage of 16:9 (squeez) and 4:3, would you have to stop the capturing and then redo the capture since both are recorded differently?

It doesn't matter, the footage is not captured "as" 16:9 or 4:3, but rather at the resolution and pixel aspect ratio that it's recorded as. Squeeze mode records a widescreen PAR of 1.2 and 4:3 will just be .9. FCP should have no trouble distinguishing between the two. Even if it doesn't for some reason, you can always tell the program what PAR you're working at.

That's hardly a reason to "never" shoot letterbox. You can just add a widescreen matte back over the top in post, and it will look fine.
