Shooter just called from departing flight on the way to shoot in Mexico w/newly delivered 16 gig card.

Said he popped into PB and card's a no show ---but the 8 gig ones he has work fine.

Betting there's some softwarwe involved here.

Anybody got an idea? Of course the Panasonic P2 site was of little help. And last I recall, editor folk like me can't download P2 stuff without a valid code or something
you get when you purchase the camera, which is just brilliant on Panasonics part.

Thanks in advance, folks.

pure speculation here but:

it sounds like it may be more of a macos thing than a p2 card thing. what version of macos is on the pb?

Man, im sorry to hear you are going through this, hopefully it will/can be resolved SOON

You have to update your Mac's PCMCIA driver using the latest driver (as linked by emiranda above). The old driver can't see the 16GB card.

 took me awhile to figure out what a "PB" was, I thought he was talking about the camera too. (OK, I'm new to macs:laugh: )

He might also find a rude awakening if he did not upgrade his HVX200 before he left. When the 16GB cards are shipped there is a big removable lable that you have to get past, like you have to spend time removing this in order to get the card out of the plastic container. It says in several languages that you may have to spend some time updating software on the machines that you plan on using this wih. It points to a yellow slip of paper that also came in the P2 card box that offers up a website which shows the drivers for the cameras, and the pc/mac interfaces.

You bet there is and if your friend had just look at what he was tearing through he wouldn't have missed the vital instructions.

Actually you can very easily. Easiest way to get to the site is by going to the HVX200 product page located off of the www.panasonic.com/broadcast web page and look under the resources tab or if you still had the little yellow piece of paper that came with the 16GB card, you would end up in the same place.

Keep in mind that you will need to upgrade all machines, that is your camera, and your computer. If you are using the PCD20, P2 Drive, it too needs a firmware upgrade. The P2 Store is not upgradeable just yet. Soon, but not just yet.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Just wish that web site was a little more Mac Safari friendly.

You have to hit refresh a couple of times to get the download links to appear.

Unless Panasonic changed it.

You've always been able to do that, it is a platform / operating system agnostic procedure. You download the firmware from Panasonic, put it on a SD card, and the rest is done on the camera.

AFAIK the only platform-limited firmware upgrade was for the 4GB P2 card; that firmware update needed to be run from a Windows PC. All other firmware updates should be platform agnostic IIRC.

Barry:

To confirm . . . . you believe you can run the 8 GB updater from a Mac?

Is that done in the cam using a SD card?

Or point me to the procedure.

Which 8GB updater? There was a firmware update for 4GB cards (the cards themselves, not any other product needing to use the cards) and that was PC-only. Is there another firmware update that you believe is Win-only?

There was an 8GB card updater for the SPX800 and the SPC700, there was nothing that had to run on the cards themselves. The 8GB updater worked just like the 16GB card updater works, save to an SD card and you are ready to run it on your camera.

Hope this clarifies,

Jan
