16gb p2 card release date

Just pre-ordered three 16GB cards from Pro Media in Memphis. They first said
they would receive the cards on May 21. THEN...they talked to Panny sales folk...and called back and said we could expect the cards on June 21. They said
demand is way beyond supply right now.

So for now...June 21 (we're first in line on the pre-order list)

Jesus, so I can't even buy a HVX200 right now. (if I could)
More waiting for me.
Any word on the Hoodman 16gb P2 cards?

If I make a clarification on MikeDPLD's post. I had 3 customers preorder a few days prior to his order and felt certain I could squeeze him into the May timeframe. Unfortunately, Panasonic's demand is indeed so high that June is the scheduled delivery date. Hope this clears things up. I have 3 more cards available for June delivery if anyone wants them.

I just confirmed with ProMedia that I was one of the first pre orders and will receive a 16 Gb card near the third week of May.

Once I get and the firmware, I'll do any testing.

Breathed a sigh of relief.

To RE1000 (and others looking), the email message from ProMedia in Memphis listed that it had a couple of HVX200s in stock for sale if that helps.

Ah nice. But i meant more that I wouldn't be able to get a hvx200 soon because of the lack of 16gb cards. But then again I could always buy one 8gb new or used in the meantime, even though i'd rather avoid that. It'll probably be at least a month before I buy a HVX200 (with two 16gb cards) anyway. Thanks for the heads up though.

Does B&H have a representitive on DVXuser? how can I tell how long the wait is going to be?

I wish i had known about spec comm taking preorders....

Thanks Barry. I looked him up and his profile does not allow private messages, and the email option just sends me back to the dvxuser homepage. I guess it will have to be a surprise or I'll have to call. Everytime I've called in the past for different matters, all I get an impatient guy who just tries to get me off the phone as soon as possible.... sigh

that's because they are grumpy for not having a store-wide vacation for over a week. I really have no idea how a store stays in business that's only open for 10 months of the year.

Any one have any more information on the hoodman stuff? Have they done any reliability tests or had beta testers?

Right -- as far as I know, nobody's seen any product, we've only seen an announcement on their website. I really hope they do something good here.

Jeez this sucks i ordered my hvx at the end of march and got the rebate but im still waiting to recive the 8gb on that and then i ordered a 16gb as soon as it came up on bhphoto which i thought was supposed to be mayish. now im stuck still waiting to shoot in hd for the first time :(. you think a big company like panasonic would be used to knowing how to match supply with demand from past experiences

The good news is that even though 16GB P2 Cards are in high demand, they should actually be available in much larger quantities than the 8GB P2 Cards.

The 8GB P2 Cards were/are hard to come by because of the manufacturing process. For some reason, the 2GB SD cards have been very difficult to produce to Panny specs. Only about 2 out of 10 cards produced would pass Panny QC. With 4GB SD cards, nearly all of them being produced are passing Panny QC. It's a technological leap that will benefit Panny and us as they pass on the value down to the customers.

Hopefully that'll bring the prices down quicker too. (if that's really the case)

Well, that's what my friend was told when he asked a Panny rep at NAB about the 8GB P2 Card shortage.
