16 second long blooper clip with DOF

Good stuff. Nice lighting, composition, and DOF. And the guy looks like the lead singer of Coldplay. Too bad he forgot his lines. :)

That's a lot of lights set up for that shot. I usually do all that's needed. So I'd probably keep the back light and the 150 key light.

Well, the lights were set up for three different shots in the same room... the lights in the rear (out the door) were for back light for when the actor entered the room. It's for another shot, not the one that I posted.

actually it was setup for any shot where the camera was directed toward the door, since it ads some modeling and texture to the background, otherwise we wouldn't see much of anything, this way there is something noticabley happening in the background... but you are also correct in saying that it was used as a backlight for when Bill walks through the door.... damn dp's and there lighting! :)

Whatched clip.

that dude was truly on another planet, lol

that shot looks good

be interested to see finished thing

As another "Noob", seeing how you lit the thing (from your grabs post) will be an "enlightening" experience when we see some more footage.

just finished my 2nd short and seemed like one of the things I learned doing the first was that its better to over light that under and you can always pull it down in post -- the guys on the broken DVD recommend this as well, so since you are using less light to get the moodiness in camera, I'm excited to see your final product.

In my first short there is a bedroom scene (post coital) with a black chick and a white dude. The scene was very dimly lit and we were concerned about picking out her features in the low light, so we cheated with an extra fill on her and not on the white dude -- surprise, she is in crisp focus and the footage looks approriatly atmospheric / dark, but the white guy is a little soft and the footage is grainier as the camera strained for light.

I'm terrified to see the final product of my short..... lol... I'm just really nervous about the look, I just hope I captured it right and all....
