16 gig P2 cards work with P2 store okay?

Our post house is choosing between 8 gig and 16 gig P2 cards.

I know the partitions on the P2 store are setup and not adjustable.

Do the new 16 gig cards work alright for anyone with a P2 Store?

Will 32 gig cards REQUIRE a new update to the P2 store?

Thanks!
RM

And I just read over at dvinfo.net that Panasonic now saids the firmware will work.

Here's the quote:

"I have OFFICIAL confirmation from Panasonic Singapore (and also Japan) that P2Store WILL support 16GB cards using the latest firmware (2.01 Appli) once you download and upgrade the P2 Store.

Jan posted the original information - but factory has pushed forward the date since.

So, go ahead and upgrade the P2STORE firmware and use 16GB cards then. "

But you might want to independently verify it.

How do I upgrade the P2 store to accept 16 Gig cards? I have followed the instructions in the manual (switched the P2 store into upgrade mode) and downloaded the 2.01 driver from the Pana site but cannot find the correct file in the browse function using the P2 store manager, when I browse to the unzipped file there is no .vdt file shown to execute to upgrade the P2 store.

Any help appreciated,

Jonathan

It's OK I found the proper download thanks, I should have read the above posts more closely especially this hint "panasonics awesomely well designed p2 software site"

Isn't that site abysmal?

For things as serious as firmware and drivers, someone with a design sense -- even a little -- should take control of it

Is there a way to upgrade the P 2 store with a G5 Mac, or do I need to use a G4 PPC?

Not to whine or anything but 60 to 70 % of the Users of P2 tech must be using macs and its *really* annoying that Panasonic can't service their customers better than they do.

Come on guys we make up lots of your sales, get with it.

and anymore info on updating the harddrive in the P2store? I'd love to put a 250 gig drive in there.. should accomodate the 15 partitions and fit nicely..

Actually the new 16gb firmware for the p2 store is up on panasonics awesomely well designed p2 software site:

If I have to hear that jive about it being my own fault for choosing to run a Mac with P2 stuff, and therefore all limitations and shortcomings in Panny's functionality and customer support rest on my own head - dag nam it, I'll be tempted to throw the thing out the window and get Red.

I'm sure Jan and Co get sick of hearing the Mac guys grumble about it, but it's an archaic approach to software development and support which is exacerbated by the fact that the camera is targeted at EXACTLY the same market as Final Cut Pro.

Rant over. Sending love.

In fairness, it's also exacerbated by the fact that there's nothing out there that can touch the HVX for price and power whilst being more Mac friendly. So well done camera team, not so well done firmware team.

LOVE!

What is upgrade mode and how do I get there? I don't have a manual and I'm trying to update this damn thing.

I'm on a mac and had the Panasonic tech tell me I CAN"T upgrade my P2 Store to read my new and expensive 16GB cards from my Mac, but insetad, I must find a windows machine. That's ridiculous. I complained and he told me to complain to Apple because they charge too much for licensing. What an idiot!!!

Barry - it's pretty confusing because I find an application and instructins for updating the P2 Store on Panasonic's web site, for the Mac, but The P2 Store Manager software will not see my P2 Store.

BTW I got your book - great resource!

It's my understanding that there is no way to update the P2 Store from the Mac platform, just like there's no way to update a P2 card's firmware from the Mac.

If you have an Intel Mac and can run WinXP under BootCamp, well, then you could probably do it. Otherwise, I think you're just gonna have to ask someone with a Windows system to update the Store for you. Certainly it's not convenient, but unfortunately it's the way it is.

Glad you liked the book!

I feel your pain but, if you think about it, if Apple would port Final Cut to a PC what would any of us need a Mac for?

Ridiculous or not, that's the way it is. If you want to upgrade a P2 Store, you MUST use a Windows system.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. When we responded to the poll about the platforms been used by us on this forum most people said Mac, I believe about 65%.

I'm all the way Apple, and although I'm surrounded by independent filmmakers (The Saul Zaentz Building in Berkeley, CA) I don't know anyone with a windows machine here.
Of course I'll find a way and I'll upgrade our P2 Store. But...

It seems to me that both Panasonic and Apple lacked commitment and follow trough when a little thing like this can get to this point. The excuse about the licensing cost it's pathetic.

Sad but true.
