16:9 outta 4:3?

OK, either I had a revelation or I had a brainfart. I was thinking if I shot a short on my dvx in 4:3 letter box (Mr.Green said that setting has the highest res), edited in 4:3, exported in 4:3, then imported into a 16:9 project and lined it up in the NLE so the letterbox part of the frame is out of frame. Would that give slightly more res 16:9 outta the dvx. Or is that that same res as squeeze mode?

I think i'm wrong but It's a shot in the dark.

thanks

This is the classic question: Is it better to uprez to 16:9 in post, or let the DVX do it in SQUEEZE. There's many threads on it, and some good points on both sides.

i did a few tests back when i used to own a dvx, and using Adobe Premier, i had some 4x3 footage that i imported into a 16x9 project.

The first test was simply upscaling it to fit the entire frame, and the second test was using instantHD to uprez it.

I then compared it to the squeezed footage, side by side, and still the squeezed stuff looked slightly higher in quality.

I agree completely with the letterbox method

I recently did some tests which included 4x3 zoomed to fit in a widescreen project, a letterbox zoomed to fit and the squeeze mode. I found that the letterbox zoomed to fit looked the best. I have some still I took to compare and it is definitely the cleanest.
