16:9 and CCDs

I know this must have been asked a thousand times, but I just signed up to this site because I recently bought me DVX100a.
I wanted to know if the 16:9 format of the DVX100a affects the capacity of the CCDs and stuff.
All in all, I want to know if shooting 16:9 will affect the quality of my image.

Shooting in Letterbox mode won't give you a true 16:9 image (it's a matted 4:3 image), but will give you full picture quality if you keep it as a 4:3 file. Squeeze mode is a true 16:9 image, but you will lose resolution.

By keeping it a 4:3 file, do you mean importing it (with FCP in my case) normally and not exporting it afterwards in 16:9 ?

Yes. If you treat the letterbox file as a 4:3 file throughout your workflow, you won't lose resolution (but it'll still just be a matted 4:3 file with the look of a 16:9 file).

If you just got your DVX100a and bought it new then it should have come with Barry Green's book. There is an entire section devoted to the differences between the anamorphic adapter, squeeze mode, letterbox, and cropping in post.
